We may want to be done with COVID, but forcing our way through it is myopic & frankly ridiculous. People are still getting sick, going to hospitals, & dying. We need primary prevention, like masks +vaccines. Personally, I’ll continue to wear a mask on airplanes & pubtranspo (6/6)
@vferrera I absolutely agree. Guess I’m just concerned ab those who do it w/o the privilege of tenure or similar - can we make change without damaging the careers of those already burdened.
I disagree. Gatekeeping entrance to prestigious institutions will not end harassment. Systemic boycotts may be effective, but claiming that individual boycotting would lead to the end of harassment would only further the divide between those who NEED change and those who don’t.
Our work about individual NPI policies’ effects on COVID-19 spread in the US counties is now out @NatureComms. We found, earlier in the pandemic, multiple interventions were needed to bring Rt below 1. Relaxing some NPIs needs counterbalanced by others.1/3 https://t.co/oYVo2gOeQT

The imminent FDA authorization of a vaccine for 12-15 year olds is great news, and adolescents should be able to access vaccine. But in the short term, we must also grapple with the ethics of vaccinating adolescents ahead of high-risk adults in other countries.
Our paper on Take Home Kits is out now as a preprint in @AJICJournal ! We demonstrate that THKs are a safe, effective, and feasible way to test HCP without exposing others and burdening PPE supply #ResPECT@datcummings@PerlTrish

@michaelmina_lab No tweet. For those w/o expertise (in any subject), it can be very difficult to weed through misinfo. By validating even one piece of info, you could come off as endorsing the rest
...bummed I didn’t watch the cartoon in time though 😂
With new votes joining the tally, we are on a strong path. But even while we wait for more, let’s celebrate the extraordinary organizers, volunteers, canvassers & tireless groups that haven’t stopped going since Nov. Across our state, we roared. A few miles to go...but well done!
Why a SARS-CoV-2 variant that's 50% more transmissible would in general be a much bigger problem than a variant that's 50% more deadly. A short thread... 1/
My first tweet of 2021 is going to be about 1 dose vs. 2 dose vaccine. I have tweeted in the past of the immunological advantages of a 2 dose vaccine. However, given the enhanced transmission variants on the rise, we need a modified strategy. (1/n)

We need to be addressing vaccine hesitancy with as much innovation, attention, & passion as we have addressed vaccine development.
We need to make certain that we do not re-play the mistakes made with testing: health equity must be a priority.
We need a transition NOW. 2/2
