At #skied2023 our keynote lecture this year is being given by @KatherineRCEM, immediate past president of RCEM. Great to listen to her reflections on her “Covid Presidency”
Leadership styles in EM can revolve around empowering teams to work well in a VUCA environment @ayres_t#skied2023 (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity)
Final talk of day 3 at #skied2023 and @anna_shekhdar introduces @DrRayHM sharing sadness, reality and some ideas around recognising the truth of how hard it is to cope as doctors sometimes
The fabulous @ashleighlowther talking about the walk in trauma patient.
She asks:
How do we assess the risks and impact of not making a trauma call?
Is self presentation a form of triage?
How do we pick out a seriously injured patient from the waiting room crowd?

“Life is like a bathtub” says @DefProfEM at #skied2023 We do need to know what to do with a patient trying to bleed to death, even though it is a rarer event than frailty trauma. Put the plug back in, think about what blood products you are giving (including whole blood)
Listening to @DefProfEM speaking about the @SWiFT_trial and emphasising the importance of evidence based medicine - he makes an excellent point ‘If life seems to have more questions than answers, try to be the one who asks the questions’. #skied2023
If anyone is watching #skied2023. Let me summarise… mountains, snow, very high quality education, meeting new and old amazing & inspiring colleagues.
It stands for:
Sustainability+Knowledge+Inspiration in ED, but it’s not just for EM.
10/10 would recommend.
@SkiedConference
Considering how to use humanities to facilitate educational impact in medical teaching. #skied2023
The example demonstrated was a song regarding domestic violence. Powerful. Well used. Careful consideration required.
So what could work in frailty trauma? #skied2023 @lowe_fionna
