I plan to promote healthy eating habits among my patients by providing them with evidence-based dietary recommendations. Collaborating with RDs and others can provide comprehensive care that addresses my patients' medical and nutritional needs. @beh353#beh353
@StarRaygoza@beh353 I couldn't agree more! It's essential to be mindful of these influences and to make conscious choices about what we eat. Reading articles like the one you recommend can be an excellent way to increase awareness and make positive changes in our diets. @beh353#beh353
Complex topics like factory farms & GMOs have lots of misinformation. Going to the source, a doctor or farmer is best. It's important to fact-check info before accepting it. Being informed about food production helps us make choices aligned with our values. @beh353#beh353
Googling info on “factory” farms or GMOs is like googling your medical symptoms. Lots of misinformation, fearmongering, outdated info or “doom and gloom” that’s often times not warranted. Your best bet is to always go to the source: your doctor and/or your farmer.
@EmmaDArpinoRD thank you for the lecture this week! Something I learned is that many of the misconceptions about food and nutrition stem from our own relationships with food. That “bad” or processed foods can even have some nutritional value. @beh353#beh353
@oliviafleuryxo@beh353 I agree! It breaks down the food groups into proportions that are easy for children to understand and apply in their daily meals. The use of colorful graphics and simple language makes the article highly engaging and appealing to kids. @beh353#beh353
Some consumers may choose plant-based for health/ethical reasons, but traditional meat production has nutritional value and sustainability. Both have a place in the market, and it's up to consumers to make informed choices based on their needs/preferences. @beh353#beh353
This article is a great and easy read for parents on healthy eating patterns and tips for kids. It has been reviewed by a medical doctor and even has multiple links to other nutrition topics parents may be interested in. @beh353#beh353

@Breanutrition@beh353 I've wanted to go to a farmer's market for some time now. It's not only going to help their small businesses but it's an excellent way to eat produce that's in season and maybe fresher than grocery stores. @beh353#beh353
Imperfect produce is one of the biggest contributors to food waste. Just bc it doesn’t look the best doesn’t mean it should go to waste. We should appreciate them either way and all aspects of how they came to be @beh353#beh353
According to Samantha Bee, doctors are spending less time with obese patients, which can result in incorrect diagnoses. I want to put an emphasis on providing tailored care and develop a strategy for all patients to stop sizeism from being stigmatized. @beh353#beh353
One fact I learned is that childhood obesity is directly linked to poverty. Ppl who aren't readily able to get healthy foods tend to lean towards unhealthy foods. I would tell them that there r resources to help them reach those fresh foods to have balanced meals @beh353#beh353
@oliviafleuryxo@beh353 I totally agree! The food industry is heavily influenced by trends and it's often difficult for consumers to discern what's truly healthy or beneficial for them vs what's just a passing fad created to make a profit. @beh353#beh353
Chia seeds are a great source of fiber that also has many other nutritional benefits such as omega-3. They can also improve heart health and reduce cholesterol levels. I personally like to add chia seeds to my smoothies or use them as a topper for acai bowls. @beh353#beh353
Seeing words like "all-natural" on food packages is like food clickbait that can lead to misconceptions since most people don't know the terminology and the differences. Knowing where food comes from is important info we should know @beh353#beh353
Consumers often think that the term "all natural" on food labels indicates how the animal was raised
The fine print on this label verbiage is exactly what marketers want you to miss. They want you to pay a premium for the misconceptions surrounding this wording. Get in the know!
@Saribelv03@beh353 It's interesting to see the breakdown between different types of milk and how some are better than others. A couple of years ago, I had to switch the type of milk I drink due to acne problems and have become lactose intolerant @beh353#beh353
A healthy eating barrier that I relate to is the unhealthy diet of my family. Since I still live at home, I mostly eat whatever is around the house or things my parents cook. When I do cook myself I try to be a bit more conscious of what I make and eat. @beh353#beh353
Didn’t know that each kernel of corn had to be pollinated in order for it to be grown. It's crazy that something as basic as wind can play such a significant part in the growth and development of corn. @beh353#beh353
Did you know that corn is self-pollinated by the wind? Pollen from the tassels falls onto the silks when the wind blows. Each silk has a potential kernel of corn, so if a silk doesn't receive a grain of pollen a kernel won't form and there will be an empty space on the cob.
@miahricz@beh353 I agree! Green powders just don’t have the nutritional benefits that come from eating green foods themselves. But it’s does help add addition probiotics and digestive enzymes into your diet if you need it @beh353#beh353
Numerous companies create supplements that they advertise as being good for the brain. Omega-3 fatty acids and various B vitamins have been researched in-depth but are insufficient to prove that supplements offer any advantages for the brain. @beh353#beh353
