@cperciva@paulg@JohnDCook As a Brit, I think politeness is often a cover for the deeply-ingrained desire to avoid confrontation and/or making a scene at all cost. Which I guess kinda leans into your theory?
@jamesrbuk Here's a quick hack at it, using a recent version of Slipo POIs I had handy for nursery, school, and college locations:
https://t.co/HbKsKDtY9b
@jamesrbuk Quick couple of source files:
i) Slipo POIs for nurseries, schools, and colleges with 400m buffers around their central points:
https://t.co/pRHIIVhYW4
ii) GeoJson of London less POIs less Greenspace, original at top, and 10% Visvalingam'd underneath:

@jamesrbuk Subtracting the 400m buffers from London's overall boundary, and then subtracting the latest OS Open Greenspace from it for good measure, not huge amounts left behind
@Psythor Bet their national mapping agency doesn't have an entirely separate organisation for Catalonia and they have, like, statistics and maps and data equality for the entire country, no bodge jobs or ANYTHING NEEDLESSLY PAINFUL which is just a glorified form of cheating really.
@ej_carpenter I raise you - think you see a musician you massively admire handing out flyers outside Brighton station, rationalise it as naaaah lookalike must get that all the time, won’t bother him, get train home, and see a tweet from him talking about handing out flyers at btn station🤦♀️
@danlesac I’d be amazed if Farage and Anderson can remain friends that long. That said, while I’d put money on him becoming leader, he’s such a tetchy miserable arrogant git on-screen, I can’t see him getting enough general public support.
@cperciva I’m sure you know this, worth pointing out for anyone curious - it’s the difference between a party targeting voteshare vs seats. Bit like gerrymandering in reverse, no point getting low share in lots of seats. What works is high share in specific seats. And that’s the difference.
@LiberalElite10@JonnElledge I just had the exact same thought. So what, some time inside the next 48 hours when they’re both gammon-drunk at the same celebration party?
@johnharris1969 Nothing to do with voter ID? It’s going to be hard work encourage people when they have to read instructions and dig around in drawers before they’ve even left the house.
@danlesac Yeah but look at all the world-event corruption they did in plain sight with it too. Plus it’s worth remembering that the (just as scummy) previous generation tories relished the crises because that’s what the job is, not whining about it like this lot did.
@Psythor 100%, preach!
(while I personally kinda enjoyed the challenge of recreating postcode boundaries from postcode + uprn coordinates, I'd have preferred to have spent that time, you know, building useful stuff instead).
@p_surridge It’s maddening. Here in Mid Sussex, Labour fielded a viable candidate, and now things are far shakier than they need to be. I think putting up a teenager last time was the sensible decision I saw from the Corbyn era.
@RowntreeLabour@UKLabour@Conservatives I'm genuinely and regretfully Torn of HH. Wanted to vote for you, but I want the Tories OUT 100%.
I've worked from home every day this campaign. No visits from any party. The tactical sites all say Lib Dem. This MRP is *tight*. Garden flags here are majorityLD.
DON'T KNOW :-/
@fellowcreative Haha all good, my brain was still waking up :) cool, makes sense - definitely one of those ideas that’s a lot easier to say than do for all kinds of reasons. I… might have been working in this area lately.
