UK plant science twitter, can you help? Is anyone growing whole cell Arabidopsis thaliana cultures and would be happy to share some with us? Ours sadly died but we need some for more experiments! Many thanks :-)
37 Nobel Laureates & nearly 1,500 Scientists call on MEPs to support New Genomic Techniques (#NGTs).
NGTs give farmers access to new drought-tolerant & nitrogen-efficient crops, helping to produce food more at lower environmental cost.

🧬Urgent Appeal for Support on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) in Europe 🌍🔬
🚨 An urgent call to action! Our open letter, endorsed by 35 Nobel laureates and 1,000 scientists, is pleading with MEPs to back New Genomic Techniques (NGTs).
It's time to reject anti-science fearmongering!
Here's what you need to know.
1/ 🖋️ CRISPR-Cas co-discoverers Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna as well as renowned authors Steven Pinker and Peter Singer lead over 1,000 signatories calling for NGTs to be legalised for use in Europe
2/🌿 The European Parliament's environmental committee (ENVI) is gearing up for a crucial vote on January 24. The proposal aims to exempt NGTs from GMO regulations, a game-changer for sustainable agriculture and innovation.
3/ 🌾 NGTs offer a path to reduce pesticide and fertilizer use, ensuring food security. This isn't just science; it's a blueprint for a more sustainable future for agriculture, the environment, and healthcare.
4/ 🌱 A collective push is needed to ensure MEPs endorse these transformative technologies. Failing to embrace NGTs may come at a significant economic cost – up to 300 billion euros annually. The European economy risks losing substantial benefits across multiple sectors. Now is the time for informed decision-making.
5/ 🗳️ The ENVI committee vote is imminent on January 24, followed by a crucial plenary vote on February 5. Every voice matters. Let's ensure MEPs make an informed decision that shapes a sustainable future.
6/ 📣 Join WePlanet activists, including young scientists and farmers, in demonstrating outside the parliament on February 5. Show your support for NGTs and the potential they hold for a brighter, more sustainable future.
7/ 👨🔬 Microbiologist Hidde Boersma stresses the significance of the NGTs vote. It's time for the European Parliament to choose optimism and rationality over unfounded fears. Your support can tip the scales in favor of progress.
8/ 🌍 Stand with the scientific community and farmers advocating for NGTs. Share this post, contact MEPs, and let your voice be heard. The future of sustainable agriculture and innovation in Europe is at stake. Act now! 🌱🔍

Super exciting to escape my computer models and see where our metabolic predictions will be tested in an actual field of sunflowers! 🌻Thanks to everyone @gain4crops and @agroscope for hosting!
@f_l_o_u_r_i_s_h I love your visualisation templates and want to use them in an academic publication. What's the proper way to attribute @f_l_o_u_r_i_s_h on a free plan? Thanks!
We welcome Dr. Sanu Shameer as the newest faculty member. @SanuShameer did his Ph.D. with @MetExplore at INRA Toulouse & postdoctoral fellowship with @leesweetlove at the @OxfordBiology. His research focuses on using mathematical models to study metabolism in biological systems.
(1/9) Happy to present our new preprint @CSB_ETHZ! https://t.co/DVOMlIvlAD
Kinetic parameter values have been measured for only a fraction of known enzymes. Machine/deep learning can predict missing values, but what is the uncertainty of measured and predicted values?
I love how my favourite metabolite, NAD(P)H, pops up everywhere - this time showing how metabolism oscillates during the cell cycle.
It was fun to work on this project and see how computational modelling is so useful for interpreting complex processes!
I am more than happy to be able to share this study that has been my passion for many years. I was lucky that I got to work on this extremely interesting and fundamental topic. A long thread will follow soon. @HeinemannLab @ResearchGbb@univgroningen https://t.co/vG1M4VYR88
An excellent review of metabolic engineering principles in microbes. These concepts are also applicable to engineering plants which is exactly what we're attempting in the @gain4crops consortium! 🌻🔀
Have you ever been stuck in your #pathway design by a #bottleneck and not found your way #around it yet? Then, this fresh review on the topic of #bypasses ↪️written together w/ @NicoC_MicSynBio, @PabloINik, @SteffenNLindner might help 🧵(1/7)
