2002 میں کراچی کی ایک خبر نے پروین سعید کو اندر تک ہلا دیا۔ ایک غریب ماں کو اپنے دو بچوں کی جان لینے کے الزام میں گرفتار کیا گیا تھا۔ وہ اپنے بچوں کو کھانا کھلانے کی استطاعت نہیں رکھتی تھی اور بھوک نے اس خاندان کو ایک ناقابلِ تصور المیے تک پہنچا دیا تھا۔ پروین اُس زمانے میں صحافت سے وابستہ تھیں۔ روزانہ مختلف واقعات ان کے سامنے آتے تھے، مگر اس خبر کو پڑھ کر وہ آگے نہیں بڑھ سکیں۔ وہ اس عورت سے ملنے گئیں، اس کی بات سنی اور پھر ایک ایسے سوال کے ساتھ واپس لوٹیں جس نے ان کی پوری زندگی کا رخ بدل دیا۔ آخر کراچی جیسے بڑے شہر میں، جہاں روزانہ بے شمار کھانا ضائع ہوتا ہے، کوئی خاندان صرف روٹی نہ ہونے کے باعث ایسی انتہا تک کیسے پہنچ سکتا ہے؟

پروین نے فیصلہ کیا کہ وہ بھوک کے بارے میں صرف لکھیں گی نہیں، بلکہ اپنی استطاعت کے مطابق کچھ کریں گی۔ انہوں نے گھر میں ضرورت سے زیادہ کھانا پکانا شروع کیا اور اردگرد کے ضرورت مند لوگوں تک پہنچانے لگیں۔ ابتدا میں یہ ایک چھوٹی سی کوشش تھی، مگر جلد ہی اندازہ ہوگیا کہ بھوک چند گھروں کا مسئلہ نہیں۔ کسی مزدور کے پاس رات کا کھانا خریدنے کے پیسے نہیں ہوتے، کسی بیوہ کو بچوں کا پیٹ بھرنے کی فکر ہوتی اور کسی گھر میں صبح سے چولہا نہیں جلتا تھا۔ پروین چاہتی تھیں کہ ایسے لوگ کسی کے سامنے ہاتھ پھیلانے کے بجائے عزت کے ساتھ کھانا حاصل کرسکیں۔

اسی سوچ سے کراچی میں کھانا گھر وجود میں آیا۔ سرجانی ٹاؤن سے شروع ہونے والا یہ کام بعد میں خدا کی بستی تک پہنچا۔ یہاں ایک مکمل کھانا صرف تین روپے میں فراہم کیا جاتا تھا۔ تین روپے کی قیمت محض حساب کتاب نہیں تھی، اس کے پیچھے ایک بہت اہم خیال تھا۔ پروین سعید چاہتی تھیں کہ کھانے کے لیے آنے والا شخص خود کو کسی کے رحم و کرم پر نہ سمجھے۔ وہ معمولی سی رقم ادا کرے، کھانا لے اور عزت کے ساتھ اپنے گھر واپس جائے۔ باقی اخراجات عطیہ دہندگان اور رضاکاروں کے تعاون سے پورے کیے جاتے تھے۔

وقت کے ساتھ کھانا گھر کی سرگرمیاں بڑھتی گئیں۔ کہیں دال پکتی، کہیں سبزی، کہیں روٹیوں کے ساتھ سالن تقسیم ہوتا۔ کچھ لوگ اپنے لیے کھانا لیتے اور کچھ پورے خاندان کے لیے۔ اس خدمت کا دائرہ صرف کھانے تک محدود نہ رہا، کیونکہ جب انسان کسی ضرورت مند خاندان کے قریب پہنچتا ہے تو اسے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ بھوک کے ساتھ تعلیم، بیماری اور بے روزگاری کی مشکلات بھی جڑی ہوتی ہیں۔ پروین ان مسائل میں بھی جہاں ممکن ہوتا مدد کرنے کی کوشش کرتی رہیں۔

2016 میں پروین سعید کو فالج کا سامنا کرنا پڑا۔ وہ خاتون جو برسوں دوسروں کے لیے کھانے کا انتظام کرتی رہی تھیں، اب خود بیماری کے باعث آرام کی محتاج تھیں۔ مگر ان کے تربیت یافتہ رضاکار کھانا گھر کا کام چلاتے رہے۔ پروین کے لیے یہ اطمینان کی بات تھی کہ جس خدمت کی ابتدا انہوں نے اپنے گھر کے چولہے سے کی تھی، وہ اب ایک ایسے نظام میں بدل چکی تھی جو ان کی غیرموجودگی میں بھی چل سکتا تھا۔

پروین سعید کی کہانی کا سب سے خوبصورت پہلو یہ نہیں کہ انہوں نے تین روپے میں کھانا دینا شروع کیا۔ اصل بات یہ ہے کہ ایک دردناک خبر پڑھنے کے بعد انہوں نے خود کو یہ کہہ کر مطمئن نہیں کیا کہ دنیا میں ایسے واقعات ہوتے رہتے ہیں۔ انہوں نے اپنے گھر کا چولہا جلایا اور دوسروں کے لیے بھی روٹی پکانا شروع کردی۔ بعض اوقات انسانیت کی سب سے بڑی خدمت کسی عظیم منصوبے سے نہیں، ایک اضافی روٹی سے شروع ہوتی ہے۔
