🌴 Many businesses run their content marketing like vacation: Write whatever whenever & good things will happen. Umbrella optional.
🪖 In reality, content marketing is more like the military: To work at peak performance, it must be regimented, goal-oriented, & adequately funded.
Social media is closer to 30 years old.

While I agree that it's still evolving fast, I think that putting the blame of "going too far" on social media managers is unfair and predetermines a lack of brand accountability despite getting ahead of this as a strategy.
It insinuates that the blame is to fall solely on the SMM if an unhinged strategy is poorly received, and that's not always the case.
Not every SMM has autonomy to just post whatever they want. We usually do work in concert with CMOs & VPMs with some sort of approval process in place.
So, just because a post is deemed "unhinged" - doesn't mean it wasn't calculated.
Social media managers need consensus.
And yes, cum jokes are too far.
"12 articles per month"
“10 new followers per week”
Relying on simple metrics is not enough to truly understand the value of content marketing.
- What's the purpose of your content?
- How does it contribute to an overall strategy?
- Are you tracking the right metrics?
