📢 Essential Reading – 2025 Landmark Paper on Lp(a)
The Brussels International Declaration on Lipoprotein(a) Testing and Management, published in Atherosclerosis, represents the most comprehensive and authoritative document on Lp(a) to date.
☝️Highlights:
1️⃣ Establishes global consensus on the need for systematic, once-in-a-lifetime Lp(a) testing
2️⃣ Provides a detailed policy framework for integrating Lp(a) into cardiovascular prevention strategies
3️⃣ Reinforces the causal role of Lp(a) in ASCVD and aortic valve disease
4️⃣ Presents new cost-effectiveness data supporting early detection
5️⃣Advocates for equity in access, family-based screening, and protection against discrimination
This declaration is a milestone in lipidology, offering a translational bridge from evidence to practice and policy.

Brandolini’s Law (also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle):
The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.
And perhaps the most intriguing data presented by @KevinH_PhD at #NLASessions: Interim analysis from a fascinating trial suggests UPFs may not inherently drive weight gain; instead, it’s energy density and hyperpalatability of the UPFs that is associated with ad lib energy intake and weight gain. However, even though a lower-energy density, lower-hyperpalatability UPF diet mitigated the body weight change seen in the other UPF groups, body composition changes are *only* favorable in the non-UPF group! Fascinating!
