the guy who made it, jheising, said on Hacker News he built it because as a kid he would watch planes cross the evening sky and try to imagine what the world looked like from up there. Stowaway is that, without the airport.

A perfect example of the unnecessary corporate bureaucracy at chain restaurants
American says he will never go to chipotle again. He is at Chipotle and wants cheese on his order. They tell him he can’t get cheese
He watches them use a big container of cheese for other orders. He asks why he can’t have some of that cheese. They tell it’s for online orders only. After a back and force, they keep telling him he can’t have the cheese
So he pulls out his phone and say he doesn’t want the order he’s been making in store, he’ll just order it online so he can get the cheese
They make him do that
He makes an online order with extra cheese. They don’t put the cheese on his food, instead putting it into 2 separate containers, but it worked, he got the cheese

One thing that stands out in @anshuc’ s feature is how closely he understands the proclivities and limitations of the models themselves. this is what folks mean when they say models or code are material. Only by understanding its properties can you effectively wield and incorporate it into your work. Just like a tailor needs to understand the distinct drape of silk, or tweed, etc. If you’re getting stuck getting better outcomes, spend more time intentionally playing with them, noticing when they do things that are unexpected and then try to figure out why.
(My favorite takeaway is his use of random alpha-numeric seeds to push the model to vary its output, like adjusting up the randomness slider in Midjourney. @willking gave a great talk at @valiocon last year that incorporated the ways playing with seeds can inspire creativity. I'll drop a link to his demo in the comments)

one under-discussed trait to hire for these days is: resilience.
we talk a lot about adaptability in terms of learning new tools, but not enough about the ability to roll with the punches, to thrive in chaos, to be re-org'ed a million times, to change plans on a dime.
Regret the tone of my post on data centers yesterday.
What I should have said:
There were reasonable concerns about data centers 18ish months ago: water, taxes, jobs, electricity prices, the environment and what they would do to small towns. Well-structured data center projects have largely addressed these concerns today and we should be celebrating this.
On balance, data centers are awesome for America in every way.
On water: U.S. data centers use a fraction of what golf courses use. A lot of the numbers from 18 months ago were off by over 1000x. Newer data centers use closed-loop systems or recycled water. Should be required by every town approving a data center project.
On taxes: looking only at sales-tax exemptions, as Ronan Farrow did, is the wrong way to evaluate this. Data centers pay significant property taxes. Loudoun County, which is the wealthiest county in America, now collects on the order of $1 billion a year from data centers. In Quincy, WA, data centers are more than half the property-tax roll. Over time, property taxes can go to zero while government spending increases in these towns.
On jobs: this has been unambiguously awesome for blue collar Americans. Demand for electricians, plumbers, welders, HVAC techs, and contractors has gone vertical, and it is not a one-time construction job. These buildings get upgraded and expanded over time. That is why the building trades are fighting for them, and why some unions are now treating opposition to data centers as a reason not to endorse politicians.
On power: the original fear was that households would pay for the incremental electricity demand in the form of higher prices. That is why the ratepayer-protection deals and the new large-load tariffs exist. The right structure is: the data center brings or pays for new generation and signs a contract long enough that existing customers are protected. Where that is happening, utilities are cutting or freezing residential rates and saying so on the record. Where it is not, people are right to object. Electricity prices are going down *today* in a number of large states because of data centers.
On the environment: data centers overwhelming use natural gas today, which is the cleanest power source outside of nuclear, solar and wind. And the companies that are building the data centers are committed to carbon neutrality such that an equivalent amount of solar will likely be built. Maybe more importantly, the data centers need batteries to function effectively and these batteries can also sell energy back into the grid (which recently prevented blackouts in Texas). Over time, data centers will run on solar plus batteries.
On the towns: Poverty in Quincy, WA fell from 29% to 6%. Data center taxes paid for a new high school, a hospital, a library, police and fire stations. This is happening in many left for dead former mill and farm towns that had no other bidder for the land.
Data centers are actually reindustrializing parts of America and creating the kind of working-class jobs both parties have spent decades claiming to support. That should not be a partisan issue. Data centers can and should be awesome for America and they increasingly, overwhelmingly are. Supporting the outsourcing of data centers to China will likely age just as well as support for the outsourcing of high quality, blue collar manufacturing jobs to China has aged.
When the facts change, I change my mind. I hope that reasonable people who had good faith reasons to oppose data centers at least consider updating their beliefs given the change in the facts over the last 18 months. This really matters for America.
I will say I also think the idea of making data centers beautiful is a good one that has yet to be implemented. Data centers should be just as beautiful as Grand Central Station. We can learn a lot from the railroad buildout. Neoclassical revival ftw.

Because once the AI handles the implementation, knowing how to write a loop is no longer the rare skill.
The valuable skills become:
What should this product do?
Who is it for?
What should version one include?
What needs to be removed?
What should the AI build first?
A traditional programmer may tell the agent exactly how to solve the problem.
That experience can become a trap. The agent follows the old path instead of finding a better one.
Meanwhile, someone who understands users, products, priorities, and taste can describe the desired result and let the agent choose the route.
Programming knowledge still matters when the system breaks.
But AI is moving the bottleneck away from writing code.
The advantage now belongs to the person who knows what should exist, not merely how to implement it.

As a software developer for decades, AI coding assistance is priceless. The ground-level tech is phenomenal, but the leadership is just playing a ruthless financial game.

Between wallets for agents with @link (and @privy), MPP, Tempo, MCP, Stripe CLI, Agentic Commerce Suite, sandboxes, OpenRouter, Metronome/metered billing, Radar and distillation/token fraud, it turns out that "the economic infrastructure for AI" implicates a lot. Pretty much every layer of the Stripe stack is changing, and it’s a very good time to join if you want to build high-scale software that facilitates the practical deployment of this new intelligence.

The best model today might be closed, and that’s fine, use it when it makes sense.
But every serious company that uses AI should have a plan for open models, local models, and model switching, because AI is becoming too important IMO to build on top of a door that someone else can close.
Kinda like you shouldn't bet 100% of your business's marketing on one social feed's algorithm.
The applications for this type of experimentation are pretty stunning. Anything from teaching motor skills to kids to gamifying physical therapy (as someone recently post knee surgery, I would have loved something like this to track progress in a fun way). bravo @pauline_makes!
