Also, would be very funny when their AI would start suggesting API keys and passwords 🙂
(yes, many ppl send them in Slack)
“Most startups needlessly accelerate their corporatization by copying the processes of larger companies, usually by poaching managers from large companies who bring their playbooks with them. For example, many startups use Jira because large companies use Jira. Don’t use Jira.”🔥
So let’s say you actually create an AGI capable, at least in principle, of doing the engineering needed for self-improvement. What’s that going to look like? Humans probably involve 100T weights, so even if we’re insanely good at it, we’re talking about many trillions of weights.
Rather than sign some letter to delay AI progress, I signed @LAION_AI petition to democratize AI research by establishing an international, publicly funded supercomputing facility equipped with 100K SOTA accelerators to train open source foundation models.

The number of AI papers on arXiv per month grows exponentially with doubling rate of 24 months.
How can we cope with this? AI itself can help, by predicting & suggesting new research directions.

Finally, my fav result: it's possible to train models on disjoint and biased datasets, then merge them together in weight space.
Eg, you have some data in US, some in EU. Can't mix data due to GDPR etc. Train separate models, merge weights -> generalize to the combined dataset!
Here's a brief glimpse of our INCREDIBLE near future.
GPT-3 armed with a Python interpreter can
· do exact math
· make API requests
· answer in unprecedented ways
Thanks to @goodside and @amasad for the idea and repl!

The burden of safety and liability should be on business deploying the end systems and profiting off it - not the researches and individual contributors, who want to focus on advancing tech and who don't have the money and resources for legal compliance.
This is a great example of bureaucrats trying to regulate things like open source and AI without understanding how any of these things work...
This will kill ALL INDEPENDENT AI RESEARCH in EU.

Deep in many people's mind is a Denial Prison, where especially unpleasant thoughts are locked away like monsters in a dungeon. But the scariness might be the work of your imagination. When you free them from the prison, you usually find out they're not such a big deal after all.
"As far as life philosophies go, "The right time is right now" isn't a bad one. Most of us would benefit from a greater bias toward action.
If you move fast, you can try more things. And if you try more things, you're likely to find something that works for you."
