Under the Inclusive Refugee Response Programme (#IRRP), partners gathered not just to review progress but to reflect on transformation.

@RCKKenya @TurkanaAssembly @DRSKenya and the @denmarkinkenya convened for the Institutional Capacity Development Project (ICDP) Progress Review Meeting under IRRP.
The conversation traced a clear journey of growth. Through targeted capacity strengthening, County Assembly of Turkana Health, Water, and Education Committees are now better equipped to integrate refugee issues into their oversight roles, legislative discussions, and policy review processes. #RefugeeInclusion is steadily shifting from an external agenda to an institutional priority embedded within county governance systems.

Partners highlighted key milestones improved coordination among county actors, more structured engagement platforms, and strengthened accountability mechanisms that seek to include both refugees and host communities are considered in planning and service delivery. The review also provided space to assess lessons learned and chart the way forward focusing on sustainability, institutional ownership, and consolidating gains achieved so far.

Under #IRRP, this is more than capacity development. It is about building resilient institutions that uphold inclusion, accountability, and responsive governance for all.

This engagement reaffirmed a shared commitment to building responsive institutions, strengthening governance systems, and ensuring refugees are meaningfully included in development planning and service delivery.

@RCKKenya and the @TurkanaAssembly convened to review the 2023–2027 Letter of Agreement, reaffirming their shared commitment to refugee inclusion and protection.

A key milestone under this partnership achieved through the Inclusive Refugee Response Programme (IRRP) is the strengthening of institutional capacity within Assembly of Turkana (CAT) Health, Water, and Education Committees. This support has enhanced oversight, policy engagement, and responsiveness to refugee and host community needs.

Notably, the amendment of the County Assembly Standing Orders, launched on 13th November 2025, now formally integrates refugee issues into county policies and Bunge Mashinani initiatives solidifying inclusive governance in Turkana County.

@RCKKenya through the Inclusive Refugee Response Programme (IRRP), convenes a Multi-Stakeholder (Fireside Discussion) on Inclusive Access to Water, Health, and Education in Turkana County.

🎯Kenya currently hosts 858,137 #Refugees and #asylum seekers (according to UNHCR, as of 31st July 2025), with Turkana County at the heart of this response.
As the country advances implementation of the Refugees Act 2021, and the integrated settlement approach under the Shirika Plan, strengthening inclusive and government-led service delivery is more important than ever.

This two-day engagement brings together the @UNHCR_Kenya , the @TurkanaCountyKE , @TurkanaAssembly , development partners, Refugee-Led Organisations, Youth, and community representatives to move from policy to practice, ensuring water, health, and education systems work for both refugees and host communities.

Today marks a momentous day to advance an inclusive refugee response in Turkana County for refugees and host communities, in partnership with @denmarkinkenya. @RCKKenya and @TurkanaAssembly have established a robust partnership through the Letter of Agreement 2023–2026.

This collaboration is designed to promote legislative development, enhance oversight, and foster public participation in #refugeemanagement and protection within Turkana County.

Under this framework, we have played a crucial role in:

🎯Strengthening the capacity of Members and staff of the County Assembly on forced displacement, human rights, and refugee management.
🎯Supporting legislative processes and reviews to ensure that laws enacted by @TurkanaAssembly incorporate inclusive measures that safeguard both refugees and host communities.
🎯Providing technical and logistical assistance to committees during field engagements and public hearings, including the landmark Bunge Mashinani.
