The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture of the Republic of Somaliland—accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Togdheer Region, several departmental directors from the Ministry, and the Togdheer Regional Education Officer—officially launched the Back-to-School Campaign for the 2026–2027 Academic Year across the Togdheer Region.
The launch event took place at Mohamed Ali Primary and Middle School in Burao.
The campaign aims to boost student enrollment, re-engage out-of-school children, and ensure that every child accesses educational opportunities.
The Ministry calls upon parents, community members, and education stakeholders to play an active role in executing this national campaign to guarantee every Somaliland child receives their right to education.

graduation ceremony for 39 students who completed their studies at the SOYVO TVET Center in Burao. These students were trained in multimedia, digital skills, and business education and were supported to establish small enterprises through which they could apply and sustain the skills they acquired.

“Unusually for East Africa, Somaliland has free and fair elections, a two-chamber parliament in its capital, Hargeisa, a legal system inspired by British colonial law and an army that is accountable to its politicians.
“Its deposits of gold and rare earths are being explored, and its 530 miles of coastline lead to the Bab al-Mandab strait – a maritime chokepoint between the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.
“Up to 15 per cent of global shipping passes through the strait, which is sometimes menaced by Houthi drones and missiles. The military and trading opportunities are obvious.
“Yet Britain, despite its intertwined history with the state, has long refused to recognise its legitimacy through fear of jeopardising its African interests and diplomatic ties.
“It therefore risks losing out on the key strategic benefits that recognising Somaliland could bring – and countries such as China are already moving in to fill the void…”
