@GreatNSpacey@utahfootballgm Do other universities have a parent org. that requires its members to give 10% of their income to be exalted, while the organization accumulates billions in reserves and spends only a fraction of its annual inflows on charity?
This isn’t a pissing match you’re going to win.
@GreatNSpacey@utahfootballgm Do other Universities have a “prophet” that recently declared BYU the “Lord’s University”?
You know, the homeless carpenter, born in a stable, who died on the cross….his school (apparently).
Bigger claims than “literally any university” = Higher standards than “any university”
@BfyreSimp@Mormonger Exactly. I had to be memory-holed once the prophet of the restoration’s Illinois prophecy became inconvenient.
If you happen to find my femur that they yanked, please ping me.
@GBSHansO But my bones (I’m a “white lamanite”) were found in Illinois, as prophesied by Joseph Smith during Zions Camp. I died fighting under Onedegas.
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 The Protestant answer is that salvation is through Christ and God’s grace, and God judges people justly according to the light and knowledge they were given. We don’t have to invent a postmortem ordinance system to make God’s justice work.
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 Or that we are justified by faith in Christ that God’s grace is sufficient.
The 2nd doesn’t require us to create a problem and then create an elaborate system to solve it. It rests on the character of God: His justice, mercy, and grace.
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 Which is more tenable: that God makes salvation dependent on belonging to an exclusive authority that wasn’t even available to billions of people throughout history, and then solves that problem by creating postmortem baptism?
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 And Jesus own baptism can’t establish baptismal necessity for everyone, because Jesus wasn’t being baptized for the forgiveness of sins in the first place.
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 Jesus did it doesn’t establish “therefore baptism is necessary for our salvation.” Jesus also underwent circumcision, kept Jewish feasts, and lived under the Mosaic law. Those actions don’t automatically become requirements for Christian justification.
@GreatSouffle@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO@Tyler_King40 When stating the negative condition, he says “he that believeth not”, not “he that is not baptized.”
John 3:16
John 5:24
Ephesians 2:8–9
Romans 10:9
Again, your Prophets created a problem that did not exist, and then claimed to
solve that problem with their exclusive authority
@moroni7_3 The southeast route along the Red Sea, then east, follows basic Arabian topography and was already visible on 18th/19th-century maps. Knowing you go south from Jerusalem to reach the water isn’t a prophecy.
@GreatSouffle@Tyler_King40@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO The authority you appeal to creates the problem and then provides the solution? The Bible doesn’t establish that billions of people who never heard the gospel need a postmortem opportunity. God’s mercy is grounded in Christ, not in an authority inventing an additional mechanism.
@GreatSouffle@Tyler_King40@LifeOnTheHighCs@Exmo2EO God created billions, to inhabit an earth, only allowing them to return to him if they accept ordinances, which must be performed by an exclusive authority, held by less than 1%? However, this obscure verse is evidence that they can be baptized by this authority after death? Wild
