German public broadcaster ARD is running anti-AC campaign with an infographic titled "Air conditioners: what cools us down, heats up the Earth."
The graphic notes AC use could add about +0.05°C to global warming by 2050 under current fossil-fuel-heavy electricity.
White House demands that the computer nerds tell them, given the program's input, if any arbitrary computer program will finish running or continue to run forever
NEW: Inside the 24-hrs before WH slapped export controls on Anthropic
- Last Thursday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised concerns about Fable jailbreak to Trump admin
- Friday AM, Sean Cairncross, Bessent, Susie etc. held WH call to discuss
- Then White House started reaching out to Anthropic to speak with Dario Amodei, who was at a wellness retreat.
- When Amodei was finally available past 1pm, he had three tense phone calls with a combo of ppl including Cairncross, Bessent, Lutnick, Kessler, Will Scharf, Richard Walters, and Walker Barrett.
-Amodei tried to clear up what he assumed was a misunderstanding. He defended the guardrails and distinguished between universal and non-universal jailbreak
- Cairncross and Bessent were unmoved and asked Amodei to take down Fable and work with the admin to fix the vulnerabilities. (A WH official said Amazon’s findings were run past the NSA and they felt they had “proof.”)
- Amodei asked for more time and info, but he made no commitments to pull the model
- Bessent told Amodei directly at one point that he was making a “bad decision”
- By Friday evening, the Trump admin imposed its export controls.
- “Export controls were a last resort after begging them for hours to work with us,” senior WH official said.

provider, but it obviously can’t be system default.
now the europoors get nothing (again).
when are we going to reject these apparatchik’s retarded opinions about technology? THEY DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT FUCK
Siri AI becomes useful because of Private Cloud Compute which is basically a TEE for a model Apple licenses from Google.
this is the only known approach balancing security, privacy and usefulness.
nobody is stopping apple users from sending all their data to another
There you have it.
Instead of Apple trying to find a suitable, compliant solution to launch Siri AI in the EU without gatekeeping competitors, Apple spent 18 months ignoring the regulations, then asked the EU Commission to be exempted from the DMA obligations.
Ngl, the NSA bricking the Iranian government’s ability to run nuclear pit implosion simulations by infecting their version of Ansys’ modeling software with the computational equivalent of erectile dysfunction is incredibly funny.
for added context: when a 17yo developer (@xiaonweb) politely pointed out that bragging about LOC is silly, Garry's response was to publicly call them a "clout farmer."
the "clout farming" teen... wrote a browser engine in Rust at 17. HTML tokenizer, CSS cascade, box model layout, GPU renderer via wgpu, and published a technical breakdown showing deeper understanding of how the web works than most senior engineers I've worked with (including me, cos I've never dug that low-level).
vs
the "shipping" guy, the president of Y Combinator, a multi-billion dollar startup kingmaker, who mass-generates code with 113 Claude sessions a week, counts lines like a Duolingo streak, and ships test files, 0-byte AVIFs, and 4 MB uncompressed PNGs to production.
right, punch down at a teenager. on main @.
