A bed enables mobility; a visible career pathway gives that mobility purpose. Housing and skilling policy should be designed together, with success measured by sustained employment, earnings growth and career progression—not merely beds built or certificates issued.
.@amitabhk87 ’s proposal to unlock public land for student housing deserves support. From #MSME perspective question must also extend to: where’ll young India learn, earn and build a career? Affordable accommodation sh’d serve apprentices, vocational trainees, university students
Where will Young India live?
By 2035, India will need nearly 10 million new student beds, requiring over $150 billion in investment. Yet barely 1 in 10 students lives in organised hostels. This is a critical challenge that demands urgent attention.
This important and often overlooked issue was brought into sharp focus by the outstanding research of Atharv Gupta, a brilliant young student at American School Bombay and ex-NITI Aayog intern, whose research formed the foundation of our article.
We make the case for unlocking idle public land, crowding in private capital, enabling universities to anchor demand & creating safe, affordable student housing at scale. The state must move from builder to enabler.
Delighted to have co-authored this piece with Atharv Gupta(pictured below) in @FinancialXpress.

Public land near MSME clusters c’d support shared accommodation linked to training institutions and employer-led apprenticeships. Associations could aggregate demand. Safe accommodation, particularly for women, and viable stipends should be integral to the model.
Countdown for ISID’s 4th Conference on India’s Industrial Transformation, starting 29 October inaugurated by Hon’ble CIM @PiyushGoyal. Also addressed by @MahendraDevS Dr V Anantha Nageswaran, @DhananjayaJnu@abhardwaj_fisme +++senior scholars. Registration https://t.co/a16ckj8sf0
Spot on that competing with China requires building supplier ecosystems. India’s response must put #MSMEs at heart of FDI & FTA strategy: tech partnerships, affordable inputs & shared testing. Protection that raises their costs weaken supply chains we seek to build. @dravirmani
One caveat: production growth alone does not measure damage. Domestic demand, import substitution, prices and sectoral overlap determine its impact. For India, concern extends to whether #MSMEs can enter supply chains & export markets already served by Chinese Cos.
One small example of ease of doing business. Identify simple rules and complicate them, revise often withdrawing few provisions and introducing new ones. Till you meet all requirement forget about your money and life
After lab grown diamonds that sounded death knell for diamond industry, is it the turn of lab gold? Future of gold reserves? End of traditional currencies?
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10.
Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years.
Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director, @CSIR_NPL, chaired the technical session, which brought together experts from accreditation, industry, testing and conformity assessment to explore ways to leverage India’s quality infrastructure in FTAs.
Setting the context, Shri Anil Jauhri (@aniljauhri), Visiting Fellow, RIS, highlighted the importance of examining how quality infrastructure provisions within FTAs can facilitate market access and deliver meaningful benefits to Indian industry.
Mr. Ramprasath R., Joint Director, @NABL_QCI, emphasised the need for clear mechanisms to recognise Indian conformity assessment bodies and reduce duplicative testing and compliance costs in export markets.
Mr. Ratan Rana, Founder & Director, @iqascorp, called for stronger institutional mechanisms and sector-specific arrangements to facilitate cross-border acceptance of accreditation and conformity assessment results.
Mr. Anil Bharadwaj (@abhardwaj_fisme), Secretary General, @FISME, proposed FTA-readiness audits by product, destination market and industrial cluster to facilitate MSME access to international markets.
Mr. Suresh Kumar, Regional Director-India, Eurofins & Regional Steering Committee Member, @TICCouncil, underlined extension of quality infrastructure beyond laboratories and certification bodies to encompass the entire manufacturing process, and emphasised the need for sector-specific quality excellence programmes, stronger industry engagement and accessible shared facilities to improve compliance and export competitiveness.

True. Its corollary also has lessons for states attracting data centres. I pointed out recently to Delhi Govt which was planning investment scheme to attract data centers. In US most states are discouraging them for the same reason fearing political backlash. @ajay_shah@mssirsa
Ajay Shah's article presents an important shift in India's economic geography.
Traditional theories of industrial competitiveness emphasize labor, capital, natural resources, and technology. But when energy costs change, the profitability of entire industries can shift.
Warm birthday greetings to Shri Rajendra Agrawal ji, former MP from Meerut and Convenor of Friends of MSMEs in Parliament.
A steadfast voice for India’s micro, small and medium enterprises, his commitment to bringing MSME concerns to the centre of public policy has been deeply valued by the MSME community.
FISME and MSMEs across India wish him good health, happiness and many more years of meaningful public service.
Happy Birthday, Rajendra Agrawal ji! 💐 @RAgrawal_offcl@friendsofmsme@minmsme@ShobhaBJP@JitanRamManjhi1@nsitharaman@abhardwaj_fisme@FISME
A good beginning! But let’s not stop at students, have candid dialogues with small businesses, self-employed, professionals to have unfiltered feedback. There is no more potent message than this down the govt machinery that facts would be laid bare at some stage. @SharmaShradha
A Chief Minister spending a day listening to students.
This is the kind of India I want to see more of.
13,000 students across India took on real governance problems, and six finalists came forward with their solutions. And then CM @Dev_Fadnavis sat there, listened, questioned and engaged with them with focus and such humility.
What stayed with me was learning that he has been doing this for the last 11 years. That consistency really struck me.
There was something very special about watching young people tell their CM how things could be better, and seeing him genuinely listen.
Maybe this is also why Maharashtra has come this far. Vision matters. And so does giving young people the space to participate.
Loved witnessing this. Kudos to Samagra and Gaurav Goel for making it happen.
We need much more of this across India.

At UP International Trade Show 2026, had a warm interaction with Hon’ble UP Minister Shri @NandiGuptaBJP and discussed industrial development, investment, exports and entrepreneurship.
Shri @DineshSinghal55 and Shri @abhardwaj_fisme were also present.
Indeed. But the real benefits to the region will accrue when systemic efforts are made to identify and build capacities of local manufacturers and integrate them with Defence supply chains. @rajnathsingh@myogiadityanath@friendsofmsme@minmsme
#India’s defence industrial corridors are beginning to reshape the country’s manufacturing base. In #UttarPradesh, nodes across #Lucknow, #Kanpur, #Jhansi, #Aligarh, #Agra, and #Chitrakoot are building the foundations for a deeper, more integrated defence ecosystem: @katul02 & Kumkum Mohata https://t.co/n05DYrl8A1 #Defence #DefenceManufacturing #MakeInIndia
