@gfodor It was probably never going to be anything but this. Government institutions don't/can't have the will and coordination to build AGI, so corporations were inevitably going to rise to the level of nations at the opening stages of the singularity.

@misraetel @annapanart The WORD work might survive due to it's cultural inertia, but the experience is bound to change drastically. Having what amounts to a playful conversation with an AI, then watching it work on your behalf is going to be feel nothing like the mental/physical labor of yore.
