@Emily30709309@beckham6to4@CarlonMariana I feel the same way! These tech nights can only do so much and it often only reaches a small percentage of our families so we have to know that most of them are in the dark #SummerEdTech
@visualprint_dt I was just thinking about this too! All of my friends who have posted their pictures of their aged faces now have all of their information freely given away! Scary stuff #SummerEdTech
A6: Marginalized students are often using supplemental technological programs to help bridge the gap, but are these programs being fully analyzed before placing students on them? Is it fully understood how the programs collect data on students? #SummerEdTech
A5: I absolutely think that most parents are unaware of all of the data collected not only by schools, but also by the online programs that their children use. I think that minority students have a further disadvantage because of the language barriers #SummerEdTech
A4: Like Bethany said, it starts with transparency and should be the first layer of protection for students. I liked how Reidenberg and Schaub stated that it should be an "integral aspect" instead of "afterthoughts" #SummerEdTech
A3: With more schools using social media and data collection programs, it is vital for parents to agree to whether or not their children will be shown on these platforms. With only opt out forms as Mariana shared, it alienates some families from truly understanding #SummerEdTech
A2: We use Aeries to record all of the students' data of personal and academic information from their entire time in LMUSD. Parents and students must sign an internet agreement each year, but this only involves access to the internet at school #SummerEdTech
A1: Similarly to the Zoom discussion members, I was clearly more unaware than I thought I was. I knew that when using different applications, I agree to certain data policies, but it is different with children. I hope it does not lead to tracking of private data #SummerEdTech
A6. I love integrating more Engineering Design Challenges (EDC's). I keep finding more connections to social studies, science, and literature content and the students love them! Gets their mind going and puts their cooperative and engineering skills to the test! #SummerEdTech
@clemmywinebox I loved this one too, Alicia! I think that this would be an awesome connection for storyboarding with your students. How would you ensure that your EL students are supported in this collaborative activity?
A5. I loved seeing the "Introduction to Dynamic Land". This awesome computer is actually a piece of paper, but allows for people to interact with each other and the materials both digitally and physically https://t.co/MziCGqG5ax
@visualprint_dt It was so sad to hear! Transportation would have been an issue too, but the program costs over $100 so I don't know what scholarships were available. I'm hoping that she'll be able to participate one day :)
A1. One of my previous students was an artist. I tried to have her participate in a summer art program but with her parents both working and no scholarship, it was not possible for her. She could have vastly developed her skills into a very possible future career #SummerEdTech
A4. Teachers as "change agents" involves taking the time to learn how and when connected learning can take place in the classroom. Like @ms_stocking said, PBL can be one avenue to begin your journey to connected learning #SummerEdTech
A3. Loved the graphic of the intersection of student interests, relationship, and opportunities to create connected learning in our classrooms. It also really resonated with me when @ms_stocking said how all students should have this opportunity regardless of SES #SummerEdTech
A2 As @visualprint_dt quoted, connected learning should allow technology to "support and wrap around the students" as they navigate communicating with experts, but not infringe on their privacy as students (@the_math_gal) I love being at an IB school for this reason #SummerEdTech
