CrossNorth Programme and #HS2 go hand in hand. Both are necessary to increase capacity and reliability in the north. That means building both the Manchester leg via #ManchesterAirport and the eastern leg serving #Sheffield and Leeds.

DfT has revised rail figures back to March 2020. This involved switching from using sales data to earnings data, and including refunds and TfL sold products. This revision reflects changes to passenger purchasing behaviour as demand has recovered from Covid-19.

Network Rail is now saying the lines blocked by this derailment on October 21 will be closed "well into November". NR is yet to lift 3 of the derailed wagons and is still planning how to build the large crane it needs because nearby land is unstable.

There has been no road tax for almost a century, but there is a vehicle tax (VED) that is only paid by owners of polluting vehicles. VED goes into a general taxation pot, and is spread amongst NHS, schools, etc.

Every other cyclists pays for the roads, even roads that aren’t safe/legal for us to ride on.

Road funding comes from income tax and council tax. “Road tax” was abolished in 1937.

@abroeky @AnnaAtTheAmbler I agree that better buses in the interim would be a good thing, but how often does the traffic in #Warkworth get the bus stuck? Similarly in #Amble and #Alnwick the buses get stuck in often horrendous traffic. Also buses don't always 'serve' #AlnmouthStation...

@abroeky @AnnaAtTheAmbler The issue is that buses never drive the levels of #ModalShift needed, and in volume, Alnwick and Amble would likely justify such a link. The entire route from #AlnwickLionheart to #AmbleStation via #AlnmouthStation is only 9.9km but brings rail to #Alnwick, #Amble and #Warkworth.

@abroeky @Warkworth_Amble @LNER @CrossCountryUK 4. This is in contrast to the original #AmbleBranch route which ran southwards to #ChevingtonStation which has long since vanished, along with much of the former trackbed. Trying to establish a new interchange between #WiddringtonStation and #AcklingtonStation a big challenge.

@abroeky @Warkworth_Amble 3. #AlnmouthStation is already well served by #InterCity operators such as @LNER, @CrossCountryUK and more, adding #Alnwick and #Amble into 'destinations served' is good for these operators too - more destinations = more passenger potential.
