Great meeting with newly elected Member of Parliament for Ajax @mckelvieAJAX to discuss pressing #smallbusiness needs such as lowering the the small business tax rate at both the federal and provincial levels. @CFIBNews#shoplocal
“A Clear Path Forward: Follow Ontario’s Lead.”
That is the message the CFIB has for other provinces, territories, and the federal government when it comes to removing party-specific exceptions.
Ontario is proud to receive a top score of A on the CFIB’s 2025 Interprovincial Trade Report Card, with an A+ in removing party-specific exceptions.
Our government’s leadership in reducing internal trade barriers has shown that meaningful progress is not only possible, but within reach for every province and territory.

Lowering the small business tax rate and increasing the threshold are direct tax mechanisms that would provide meaningful relief versus more programs that often come with administrative red tape. It is crucial that small businesses thrive and remain the foundation of our economy.
At 3.2%, Ontario’s small business tax rate is among the highest in Canada, with the income threshold frozen at $500,000 for almost 20 years. No wonder 84% of small business owners say it is time for change❗
We’re calling on the Ontario government to:
✅ Cut the tax rate to 2%, with a plan to reach 0%
✅ Raise the income threshold to at least $700,000
✅ Index the threshold to inflation annually
