57 year old male from west coast of Cumbria who loves travel, imported beers, music, dominant ladies, dissing politicians, old films and TV and horse sports.
@_DundeePerfect_@JamesMelville@Daily_Express I always thought you did something like six years as a regular and six years as a reservist, and then were placed in an emergency reserve until you were 40.
@DaveMitchison@capedjoosader I had a mate who was at Wildenrath in 1990 and he said everyone was checking under their cars for bombs and watching out for people behaving suspiciously.
@bensmithrugby I live in west Cumbria, once a stronghold of rugby league. The two professional teams are lucky to get 400 fans, the amateur sides struggle to get young players, and it's seen as a dying sport here.
@anon_opin I suppose some people enjoy it, like people who run for miles on a Sunday morning. To me, I had 2 left feet, going out in rotten weather to chase a ball about was something I stopped doing at school, but others like it.
@johnlbirch The RFL have pushed their sport outside its heartlands for decades and met with complete indifference. It just doesn't appeal to people in the same way RU or football do.
@chuckthomasuk There would often be a really good film on ITV in the early eighties to take your mind off double PE the following morning. Reality would hit when you had to get your kit ready after the film.
@feelgoodtale She was lucky never to have been captured as France had very high rates of collaboration with the Nazis. Still the girl did well and helped us win.
@CSG1973 I can remember how badly Weller treated Bruce Foxton in The Jam, leaving Foxton with little to show for all his effort. Weller has always been a champagne socialist who has made millions, though it's debatable since The Jam, if anything he did was good.
@Miss_Strictland Cheers, as the traditional manufacturers like BATA are long gone. I think Marbots are supposed to be quite traditional and good for slippering.
@Horwell5@piersmorgan Gordon Brown did the same in 2007, a year later the country was in recession and his poll ratings slumped. I still think Burnham could try for an April election.
@Miss_Strictland That plimsoll must have seen some action over the years. One thing I'd really enjoy again is a #slippering with an old white plimsoll.
@ScottCTomo88 Another thing: pubs seem to be cancelling their Sky contracts all the time where I live. It's costing them too much for too few customers. They'd sooner sell food and cocktails to better off older customers than show a match to a handful of men.
