Jokes Review (@JokesReview) just published my short story, "Character Development," on the Jokes Journal section of their website! Jokes Review is one of my favorite literary journals; I am mondo grateful to be included!
Here it is: https://t.co/HVC2Ei96fu
@bkpark@pschofie79 And that's what would be interesting. Students who claimed to have read would have cheated; non-finishers would be the good students. The completionists would be students w/poor grades/attendance b/c they don't realize how much 25,000 pages is or did not even look at the count.
My literary journal @JokesReview has officially been around for 10 years!
I've had a blast publishing so many amazing writers, including @RiekkiRon, @BradyDale, @default_friend, @VraieSterzinger, @amy_grech, @ChrisDavidLo, @MDPurzycki, @MMcSw13, @fishclamor, @LChasek, @RoccoSweetheart, and many others.
The literary world feels totally stagnant right now while simultaneously being threatened by AI. But somehow my work with Jokes Review still feels as exciting and relevant as ever.
We just published our latest issue on the theme Urban Legends. We're about to publish a book by the great @VraieSterzinger. This summer we're publishing a 10-year anniversary issue with a release party already scheduled. And we're still doing semi-monthly IRL meetup events in Sacramento.
At this point, if literature does ever die, I'd still keep Jokes around just as a social club, since the IRL events have taken on a life of their own.
But if you want to help keep literature alive and support our work at Jokes Review, pick up a copy of one of our issues or books! Here are some of our best releases from over the years:
@BuckSexton "The Nanny" has a pretty good pilot. "South Park" probably has one of the most "out there" ones.
Oh! "The Drew Carey Show" has a GREAT pilot; it's fast-paced, funny, and just has a comforting ending. You are dropped right into Drew's life without it feeling too intro-like.
@TAtzenhofer@BasedMikeLee Again, not everywhere is like this, but most. I went to a private Catholic college in PA which was not bad; at worst, profs. chatted in offices w/students around.
Nothing wrong w/opinion; I am starting to voice mine. But never in class. I aim to present questions/perspectives.
@TAtzenhofer@BasedMikeLee These are individual professors (not the college itself). Multiple profs., though. During an interview, a prof. made statements about political figures. During mult. interviews, profs. would praise their gender neutral bathrooms out of nowhere (maybe bec. of my longer hair?).
@TAtzenhofer@BasedMikeLee I don't like the word "indoctrination." It's misused and not what I was arguing.
Left presence is there. Faculty orientations cover pronoun usage. Faculty loudly call conservatives "stupid" and "uneducated." Union leadership says who to vote for w/disdain for candidates.
@TAtzenhofer@BasedMikeLee It's not all, but it is most. Texas colleges are a bit safer.
I just finished undergrad not all that long ago, was in grad school, have worked at 5-6 colleges in the last 3 years, and attended college visits via work during the summer (3-4 a summer for 7 years). It's this bad.
@TiffaniMarie483 In the US, typically the period would be on the inside. In the UK and most other places, typically the outside.
There are of course exceptions. If I was telling someone to find a specific file, I would not want a period on the inside of the quote, as it would add confusion.
@L0m3z This art style drives me NUTS. It is too simple, and they pick weird colors. They try to be nondescript and use what is probably perceived as a "cozy" and "welcoming" style, but it is gross.
