It's pool season! And a common problem I hear from parents is they take their young children to the pool, only to find out that the children's section is closed :(. I've asked DPR to update real time status, but they haven't had capacity, so I made my own! (1/3)
@RyanJamesCarey I think the main issue here is that Bowser is just a phenomenally bad manager. Refusing to oversee critical services, installing cronies regardless of qualifications, going after whistleblowers, etc.
We could not spend an extra dime and make the city run so much better.
@JHWeissmann@vivian39_ Right but that also varies. You say some can save 20 minutes driving. From my place I probably save ~10. Others will save no time. You need to build a model (with averages and estimates) to be able to make an informed decision.
@JHWeissmann@vivian39_ I have other numbers but not these, which is why I'm asking for your estimates.
Maybe 1/3 of people go to Union Market and each of the last 600 parking space gets used 1.5x per day? That honestly seems a bit generous to cars to me but I'm just making things up.
@JHWeissmann@vivian39_ What % of people getting off at NOMA do you think go to Union Market?
What do you think the average utilization rate/turnover of the 600 excess parking spaces is?
Speaking personally, worst part about being an ANC is having to spend so much effort on trying to get DC gov to address things that are broken that shouldn't be.
Bowser is a generationally bad manager of city government. She's been running DC for 12 years and basic services just don't work. This election can't come soon enough.
THE HITS KEEP ON COMING: U.S. Park Police drove an apparent stroke victim to the hospital this evening after waiting about 20 minutes for medics to arrive just one block from the White House. EMS was delayed because DC911/@OUC_DC sent @DCFireEMS to two bad locations in the wrong quadrant of the city. While this was going on, US Park Police told DC911 that the patient’s “condition was deteriorating”. Listen to the radio traffic below 🔽🔽.
US Park Police were at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue NW near the Lockkeeper’s House in the shadow of the Washington Monument, just south of the White House. Fire and EMS were first sent to 15th and Constitution NE, followed by 17th and Constitution NE. It took about 18 minutes before DC911 corrected the problem.
OUC only learned of the mistake after US Park Police called on the radio, wondering where the medics were. About the same time, a fire officer who was sent to the wrong location noticed in the notes entered by DC911 that the correct location was by the Lockkeeper's House, a landmark provided to 911 by US Park Police. It should have been a big clue to call-takers and dispatchers that they entered the wrong quadrant. By the time OUC dispatched the correct fire and EMS units to the correct location, a US Park Police officer decided to drive the patient to the hospital.
What does it say to visitors when a premier tourist city like the nation's capital continually shows that its 911 center can’t promptly send help to some of the best-known locations, not just in DC, but around the world? What does it say about the mayor and DC Council that DC911 constantly makes these mistakes, not just in tourist areas, but all over the city, with zero accountability? When will someone #FixDC911?

The true story of how a new luxury apartment building allowed a woman living in a shelter to find stable housing and be reunited with her son.
DC is short 100k homes. We need new housing of all types to bring down costs and make the city more affordable.

The real issue with "smart" appliances is they're actually still pretty dumb. A fridge that told me when I needed more mustard or a dishwasher that kept going until all the crust was off that plate would be pretty great.
Top 3 reasons to support @waymo and other rideshares coming to DC is just to make incumbents work harder. @uber/@lyft service and support have gotten atrocious
@uber missed an appointment because the driver for my scheduled ride cancelled last minute and it took too long to find a new driver. Can I get a refund for the trip and my return?
Other Councilmembers need to “be there” so that we have a majority to vote for building the housing our District needs. The entire District needs Ward 3 to build their fair share, not just be content as a playground for the rich.
@Uber_Support This doesn't make any sense. It was your error that caused the ride to be late, made me miss my appointment, and cost me $40 for no reason. I want my money back.
@uber missed an appointment because the driver for my scheduled ride cancelled last minute and it took too long to find a new driver. Can I get a refund for the trip and my return?
@Uber_Support This isn't an appropriate response. The cost of the trip before the adjustment you just applied was >$20. The cost of the round trip was >$40. I would like a full refund for both trips.
@vintage_blk@ZachBIsrael I'm not sure it's net good that a lot of the electorate isn't even aware there's an election going on. Doing it in November helps focus attention.
Might be better if the Dem party in DC explicitly splintered and held separate primaries. Or make it a jungle primary.
