@feministzai@pleasentmantis A class does not have to be oppressed relative to other social classes to still have social problems, and while “gamers” may not be oppressed it may be a proxy for other forms of people who are in some ways oppressed (men with antisocial tendencies)
@feministzai@pleasentmantis I don’t think this is a particularly true or useful attitude to have towards addressing social problems and I’d encourage you to revise it
@feministzai@pleasentmantis I don’t think the way culture is internalized or reproduced is as simple as “personal responsibility” being a blanket solution to social grievance
Probably the most troubling feature of Christian morality historically has been the simultaneous obsession with classifying the sinfulness of sexual acts and desires coupled with a refusal (with notable exceptions) to condemn the ownership and exploitation of human beings
@MoonyRaccoon@Danidoesmagic@MikeWasThere MTG has never been above portraying certain kinds of historical acts of violence, and caveating this one out because Japanese players like it is a blatant double standard
@MattBruenig@_2c2c2@Noahpinion Do you think that his views on Hezbollah, 9/11, or the Houthi Rebels may also contribute to the perception that he is, at minimum, highly sympathetic to terrorist actions against the US?
@ostonox@lolwow0082@FormosaTune@bushraamiwala Wiener and Chan have virtually identical policies on the conflict. They just hate Weiner because he is perceived as less progressive on issues like housing policy, which it seems like a tracker called “Track AIPAC” really shouldn’t care about
@Danidoesmagic@MikeWasThere Also, there’s just a blatant double standard here. Lots of atrocities are often the subject of artistic exploration (even in fantasy media - see how the Nazis were inspiration for the stormtroopers!) but somehow this one is supposed to be off limits just because it’s Japan?
@Danidoesmagic@MikeWasThere The bombings were not bad and the level of imperial Japanese propaganda the Western Left has uncritically accepted is completely insane
@Danidoesmagic@MikeWasThere This is absolutely not a settled historical debate, and I’m sorry but I’ll apologize for the bombs when Japan apologizes for comfort women or Unit 731
@envisionedluna@liamhrobins The problem is that domestic political influence is a lot less neglected than something like shrimp welfare and is plausibly overdetermined by factors entirely outside of the control of EAs
MeToo made it so that being a shitty boyfriend is tantamount to abuse. Sorry, dating a guy who isn't nice and likes to do drugs doesn't make you a "survivor". Reminds me of the stupid Jonah Hill scandal
@gracecthdralprk@souljagoyteller If true, we’d expect anti-data center sentiment to roughly track anti-AI sentiment. But this doesn’t seem true at all - people hate data centers much more than they hate AI writ large!
