Dear Secretary Bessent @SecScottBessent,
My name is Everett Stern. In 2010 I was a compliance officer at @HSBC. From a back office in New Castle, Delaware, I watched billions of dollars move to drug cartels, sanctioned regimes, and terrorist organizations. The enemies of the United States. I documented it, I escalated it, and when the bank would not act, I took it to the @FBI, the @CIA, and eventually the @SECGov.
The result was a $1.92 billion settlement. At the time, it was one of the largest in American history. It was also about five weeks of the bank’s profit. Not one banker was charged. Not one went to prison.
I paid a different price. I lost my career, my savings, and my place in the industry I had trained for. I was blacklisted. Every door in American finance closed at once. I slept on a camping cot in a 300 square foot apartment because I could not afford a bed, and I waited tables at @PFChangs to eat. I tell you this not for sympathy, but so you understand that I know exactly what it costs to do the right thing in American finance, and exactly how little the system does in return.
I made that sacrifice because I believed it would change something.
Yesterday, your department fined @BankofAmerica $1.2 billion for failing to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions, some of it tied by your own findings to Chinese laundering networks, narcotics, and the southwest border, alongside 475 apparent sanctions violations touching Russia, Iran, and global terrorism. The bank admitted it willfully violated the Bank Secrecy Act.
Fourteen years after HSBC. A bank with “America” in its name. And once again, not one individual charged.
Secretary Bessent, I want to say plainly what I believe you already know. The fines are not working.
A fine is paid by shareholders, absorbed by the balance sheet, and forgotten by the next earnings call. Bank of America reported earnings this morning. Nobody who set the alert thresholds, nobody who decided the 2024 cease and desist could wait, nobody who chose the backlog over the law will lose a single thing they value. Their lives are untouched. That is the entire reason the behavior repeats.
This is money laundering. This is blood money. Money that reaches a cartel buys fentanyl that kills Americans. Money that reaches a terrorist organization buys the next attack. This country has fought a war on drugs and a war on terror for decades, at enormous cost in lives and treasure, and all the while we have allowed the financing to flow through institutions we charter and regulate. Cut off the money and we win. We have never seriously tried.
There is also a question of equal justice that I cannot let go.
Before I walked into the FBI building to report HSBC, I stopped in front of the Great Seal on the wall and read the words engraved beneath it: “Justice is the defense of our liberty.” I believed that. I still want to. But every day in this country, people go to prison for crimes that are nothing next to moving money for the people who want Americans dead. A suit, a title, and a corporate badge should not be a shield from the consequences that apply to everyone else. If a street dealer goes to prison for what he sells, the banker who moved the cartel’s money should be standing next to him.
I also want to raise something that is rarely said in these conversations. Why has no one inside Bank of America come forward the way I did? The answer is that everyone in American banking knows what happened to me, and to the whistleblowers who came after. The last person who spoke up is the only policy anyone believes. That is a culture problem, and it starts with leadership, in the banks and in the agencies that regulate them.
This is not a political issue. It has spanned administrations of both parties. It is a national security issue, and I am asking you to treat it as one.
Three things would change the math overnight.
Refer individuals for criminal prosecution. Not the analyst in the queue. The executives who set the thresholds and chose the risk. One banker in handcuffs would do more than every fine in Treasury’s history combined.
End “too big to jail.” An institution cannot be too big to fail and too big to jail at the same time. If it is the first, it must be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.
And if Bank of America will not act as America’s bank, review its charter. A national charter is a privilege granted on behalf of the American people. It should be conditioned on not moving money for the people trying to kill them.
Secretary Bessent, you said yesterday that these actions send a clear message that even the biggest institutions are not above the law. With respect, the institution was never the problem. The people inside it are above the law, and they know it. Until that changes, I will keep writing letters like this one, and the next bank will keep paying the next fine.
I gave up everything I had to stop this. I am asking you to use the power you have to finish it.
Respectfully,
Everett A. Stern

Elon Musk pulled his kids out of school and just… built his own. Inside a rocket company. As you do.
No grades. No standardized tests. Just real problems that need solving. The school was called Ad Astra — Latin for “to the stars.” Because of course it was.
His argument is devastatingly simple: schools teach you the wrench, never the engine. You spend 12 years learning tools with zero context for why they matter. So your brain — which is literally wired to delete useless information — throws most of it away by graduation.
That’s not a flaw in students. That’s a flaw in the design.
And now we have AI — the greatest teaching tool ever built — and kids are using it to skip the thinking entirely. We didn’t get smarter. We got better at avoiding the hard part.
The tool got a PhD. The education system is still handing out participation trophies.
@DonEford We use Enovid followed by a light coating of ProFi.
Are those sprays magic enough so we don't wear masks? No! Indoors we always still wear N95s. But I believe that eating on an outdoor patio at a restaurant is safer because we use them.
I don't know who needs to hear this...
Nasal sprays work to protect you from infection.
It's not just COVID; the antiviral properties in red algae and nitric oxide sprays are universal and not pathogen- or variant-specific.
They won't just reduce your risk of COVID; they will reduce your risk from ALL and ANY airborne pathogen.
The people claiming there isn't proof they work are wrong and benefit from mass infection.
A Note on Pricing
I don’t know how you feel about the price, but I’d still like to explain a little.
The costs come from several areas: one-time upfront costs, production costs, shipping and storage, marketing, after-sales and returns, and financing.
One-time upfront costs:
Two years of design, prototyping, testing, and certification add up to a significant amount, and that needs to be amortized into the cost of each unit.
Production costs:
This includes the cost of custom components from about eight main suppliers, as well as assembly at our own factory. I have to say, each machine includes four filters and four fans, and that part alone is quite expensive. Compared with the 3Pro, this model also adds a plastic housing (plastic prices have risen by about 20% because of the war), a screen, and a PM2.5 sensor. We also upgraded the tube that houses the fan bearings to a CNC-machined copper tube, which helps reduce the chance of abnormal noise but also increases cost.
Shipping and storage costs:
We ship from China to warehouses in the US, Europe, and other places, and then pay inventory fees every day while the units sit in the warehouse. Shipping from the warehouse to the customer’s address costs about $18. In most of Europe, shipping is even more expensive.
Marketing costs:
Amazon takes 15% in fees. On our own website, the transaction fee is lower, only about 5%. That’s why ordering directly from our website helps me. We also plan to advertise on Amazon, which is expected to cost 20%. Promoting on social media also involves significant expenses.
After-sales and return costs:
We offer a 30-day free return policy. Return shipping, repackaging, and damage-related losses are also part of the cost.
Financing costs:
I took out a loan of about $500,000 for early development and preparing the first few batches, so there is interest on that capital.
Compared with the 3Pro, this model’s price is only $20–25 higher, but the additional costs are more than $20–25. We hope this model will sell far better than the 3Pro, so we lowered our margin and are going for thin margins and high volume strategy.
I bet you won't find an air purifier on the market for under $200 with this kind of capability. That makes the 5Pro a no-brainer.
I hope everyone can have an affordable and good air purifier to help with your health.
Hola, soy palestino. 🇵🇸
1947. La ONU me ofreció un estado. Junto a Israel. Fronteras, independencia, reconocimiento.
Me dio autonomía.
¿Democracia? No he tenido elecciones en casi 20 años.
The day before yesterday, during negotiations in the United States, an incident reportedly took place that left the American delegation literally speechless.
When the Ukrainian representatives learned that sanctions against Putin were being lifted and that Washington was demanding an end to strikes on Russian oil refineries, Budanov allegedly responded in extremely harsh terms.
At the very end of the meeting, when the participants had already risen from the table and were heading toward the exit, he threw these words straight in the Americans’ faces:
“Now we’re going to fucking burn every Russian oil refinery and port to the fucking ground. Every last one!”
According to reports, the Americans were so stunned by what they heard that they couldn't find anything to say in response.
No objections, no threats, no usual diplomatic language. Just silence.
Washington received an unmistakable message: Ukraine has no intention of asking permission to defend itself against Russian aggression.
If the anti-Ukraine crowd had their way, we’d have an emboldened Russian army on the border of five NATO countries, led by a mad man who believes we don’t actually take NATO defense seriously. That’s the scenario that leads to WW3, in fact. Enabling Ukraine to defend itself is literally the opposite of “WW3.”
But then again, I’ve never accused the keyboard warriors on X of being too thoughtful 😂😂
When I interviewed President Zelenskyy @ZelenskyyUa in July, he said he’s more than happy to sign a peace deal to end the war with Russia.
The issue is, Russia won’t stop firing ballistic missiles into Ukraine. Russia won’t stop killing Ukrainian children. Russia won’t stop bombing Ukrainian hospitals.
Russia won’t stop aiding Iran in the war against the US.
Putin should be aggressively challenged for his nonstop aggression.
Peace is a two way street.
