Due to the massive impact and substantial monetary damages, over 30 countries have enacted or updated laws in the past two years to specifically address #cyber threats to their elections.

Many experts predict that by 2030, nearly all elections will include significant advanced cybersecurity components utilizing AI to protect against hacktivism, as #cyberthreats continue to evolve.

AI’s Role in Hacktivism 🤖🗣️

Unfortunately, AI is being used unethically and amplifying the impact of hacktivism, and spreading misinformation. According to a 2024 Elon University Poll:

• 70% say it is likely the election will be affected by the use of AI to generate fake information, video and audio material.

• 62% say the election is likely to be affected by the targeted use of AI to convince some voters not to vote.

The Rise in 2024 📈🌍

Hacktivist groups from over 20 different countries have been identified as targeting elections worldwide. Countries affected by such interference saw voter turnout drop by 8%.

There has been a rise in several kinds of attacks and breaches including #DDoS, #ransomware, AI, defacement, data theft and #insiderthreats associated with hacktivism and elections.
