Today, Dr. @JarnoHabicht and WHO team met with @ArtesanResQ and Dnipro emergency services to discuss support for strengthening patient critical transfer. 🚑Since 2022, over 2,000 critically ill patients, incl. children, have been safely transported across 🇺🇦 with @WHO support.
1/n U.S. measles cases reach 33-year record high as outbreaks spread. My view: COVID antivaccine activism spillover to childhood immunizations with measles typically the first breakthrough illness (from high transmissibility), here are my recommendations… https://t.co/Rzz7WHVCkt
Blown away by how a small team of public health experts & epidemiologists at @Yale is doing what *entire governments* won’t: helping bring Ukraine’s stolen children home. #PublicHealth is more than disease surveillance—it’s applying those skills for resistance, justice, and accountability in the face of atrocity. Where is the rest of our academic & research community in supporting Ukraine? We don’t have to be bystanders in war - as shown by the inspiring leadership of @nattyray11 at @HRL_YaleSPH, using open-source intelligence, forensic analysis & satellite imagery to: – Track abducted 🇺🇦 children – Map attacks on hospitals & infrastructure – Issue early warnings to prevent atrocities – Build legal cases for accountability
This is what modern public health looks like in wartime. 🛑 Support their mission & help bring Ukrainian children home: https://t.co/VBOAhMZrfW
🚀 We're thrilled to launch the UK-Africa Health Summit 2025 Thematic Papers!📄 Key stakeholders from UK & Africa, NHS, diaspora networks & WHO came together to tackle urgent global health challenges. Stay tuned as we share insights & recommendations all week! 🌍🤝 #GlobalHealth
Over 2,400 hospitals, clinics, pharmacies & health workers attacked by Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On average this works out to 2 strikes a day on those providing essential health care including maternity hospitals & the largest children’s hospital in Ukraine followed by double & triple tap strikes on rescue workers. The cost to repair the sector is estimated to be $20 billion but Ukrainians adapt, reform and find new ways to deliver care through mobile clinics, leveraging technologies & telemedicine to keep society functioning. This resilience is propped up by civil society but urgent gaps remain which @WHO #USAID will not be able to fill with current slashes to budget & funding. Listen to my interview with @DomNicholls@FrancisDearnley here & consider donating to @UkrAaction to support mental health of veterans an often overlooked aspect of the war but critical for Ukraine’s survival:

Thank you to everyone who joined FtFA's reception in #Geneva!💊Grateful for insights from @WHO & @wto on the global #fake medicines crisis and its impact on health & trade. Let’s keep driving change together! 🚀

If we fail to act now, preventable diseases will keep spreading — and children will pay the price. We must do better to provide: ✅ Easier access to vaccines ✅ Clear, targeted public messaging ✅ Deepen trust & local community engagement ✅ Tougher action against online misinformation #VaccinesWork #PublicHealth
Disinformation travels fast & with #RFK as head of HSS anti-vaxx views are now legitimised and endorsed by the US Gov, inevitably spilling over onto UK shores.
The @UKLabour plan to allow health visitors to vaccinate children at home is a positive step — but a small pilot won’t reverse a national trend without proper funding and scale. These plans should connect with expanding pharmacy-led vaccination services to leverage skill set of pharmacists.
The impact is already being felt:
📍2,911 measles cases in 2023 — the highest in over a decade
📍14,894 whooping cough cases in 2024
📍11 babies died last year from pertussis
Childhood vaccination rates in the UK have slumped to a 10-year low.
We’re now below the 95% needed for herd immunity — the level that protects even those too young or vulnerable to be vaccinated. In Hackney, just 60% of 5-year-olds are fully vaccinated — putting entire communities at risk.

Speaking to @LBC Vanessa Feltz @VanessaOnAir today at 5:30 pm to
discuss the drastic drop in childhood immunisation rates - In 2023 the UK had the lowest #MMR vaccine uptake in the G7, with 1 in 10 children unprotected by age 2. Here's what every parent should know 👇🧵
@WHO Great speaking with @OksanaPyzikUCL from @FightTheFakes; Rutendo Kuwana of WHO; and Dr Obaidullah, CEO, Pakistan's Drug Regulatory Authority, learning of governance challenges & big business interference. People need medicines they can trust not falsified or substandard. #WHA78
To treat brain diseases, drugs must cross the ultra-selective blood-brain barrier—a major challenge for large molecules like antibodies. Now, tiny chemical “shuttles” are paving the way to deliver therapies where they’re needed most. 🧠💊 #Neurotech#DrugDelivery#SciComm

It's official: the #PandemicAccord is officially adopted by the World Health Assembly!
My warmest congratulations to @WHO Member States for their commitment to keeping their people and the world safer.
What a moment in global health history. Together!
On the latest Infection Control Matters, our scientists unpack Candidozyma auris (formerly Candida auris) - how it's detected, why it matters, and what it means for infection control.
