Doormat's New Logic:

"Let's not act as if Somaliland is recognized."

Those who say this don't understand the difference between de jure recognition and de facto recognition.

Somaliland, though inappropriate given our legal case, had never had its de facto recognition challenged.

De facto recognition means other countries treat you like a recognized country. Examples include previous visits by President Bihi around the region.

What Kenya did was to strip even that away.

Not just that, they compared us to Jubaland, which is basically Kismayo and two villages.

And they did it with so much energy and in a fashion that was totally humiliating to the Somaliland president.

Opening offices is the biggest commitment and effort a country makes toward another. Kenya didn't even care or show courtesy.

They later even blocked it.

The few accounts defending this have no dignity or sense of loyalty.

President Abdirahman Irro opposed the Berbera port concession agreement between #Somaliland and @DP_World and demanded that former president Ahmed Silanyo be prosecuted for concluding the deal with the #UAE. Nine years later, Abdirahman Irro started his first trip as a president in the UAE, contradicting his long stance on the UAE and its investment in Somaliland.

This illustrates a lack of consistency and predictability, which are crucial for foreign relations and diplomacy. The same scenario also happened when the Waddani party criticised Somaliland’s engagement with #Taiwan and showed leniency towards #China. Yet, when Abdirahman came into office, he appointed a Somaliland representative to Tawain and gave the portfolio to the person who demonised Somaliland-Taiwan relations.

President Abdirahman’s foreign policy is unclear, abrupt, and directionless. It will jeopardise Somaliland’s long relations with important countries such as the UAE, #Ethiopia, and Taiwan.

#Somaliland is doing everything in its power to assist the victims, but the scale of the crisis is overwhelming. These villages are being wiped off the map, and we cannot face this challenge alone.

We are calling on the world to act urgently—humanitarian aid is desperately needed, and justice must be sought for the victims of these heinous crimes. How many lives must be lost before the world notices?
