Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, has admitted: there was no famine in Gaza.
Enough food for everyone — for three months.
The only real hunger is that of the hostages, waiting to return home. 🎗️
The agreement to finally secure a ceasefire in #Gaza & release the hostages is a huge relief.
It will bring respite to people who survived the worst bombardment, displacement, loss and grief for two long years.
After their excruciating ordeal, hostages & Palestinian detainees will finally join their families.
@UNRWA has food, medicines + other basic supplies ready to go to Gaza. We have enough to provide food for the entire population for the coming three months.
Our teams in #Gaza are crucial for the implementation of this agreement including to provide basic services like healthcare + education.
There are over 660,000 children who are eagerly waiting to go back to school. UNRWA teachers stand ready to help them fulfill that.
I call on all member states to support UNRWA to do its work to assist people in need in the coming critical period.
#ceasefiregaza
I am heartbroken by our PM’s recognition of Palestinian Statehood. The premise of the recognition was supposed to be that they would hold democratic elections, release the hostages - not been done (nbd), Hamas surrender and demilitarize - nbd,
Today marks a shameful chapter in our nation’s history. Rather than taking a principled stand against terrorism, Canada has chosen to reward terrorists for their actions.
A few questions for @MarkJCarney:
Who will actually run a Palestinian state? It certainly can’t be the Palestinian Authority, which Canada currently envisions.
Most PA leaders continue to not only have issues with recognizing Israel’s right to exist, but also openly fuel incitement against Israelis. The PA also continues to financially reward terrorists and their families who commit terrorism against Israelis, through the PA’s ‘pay-to-slay’ program.
And let’s be absolutely clear: Hamas maimed, raped, tortured and murdered 1,200+ Israelis and kidnapped 250+ hostages on October 7th. Less than two years later, we’re rewarding these barbarians with statehood?
Canada’s historical commitment to a two-state solution is no secret and countless leaders before Mark Carney have also glossed over the hard questions—like where the state will exist and who will run it.
The Montevideo Convention defines strict criteria for statehood. A state needs borders, a permanent population, and a government.
Let’s face it: There is no “state of Palestine” that meets these criteria. Palestinian areas have no fixed borders and are split between rival, hostile governments.
Ignoring international standards undermines future negotiations and sets a dangerous precedent for global instability.
You said you wouldn't recognize Palestine unless it met certain conditions, because otherwise you would be rewarding terrorism.
* You said Palestine needed to become a democracy, and have an election next year.
* You said Hamas could play no part in Palestine.
* You said Palestine had to demilitarize.
* And you said Hamas must immediately release all hostages. Source: https://t.co/js2twFyas2
None of those things happened and yet you rewarded terrorists with recognition.
You've not just sold out Israel. You've sold out Canada, and Canadian values.
None of your schemes will actually make a difference. Israel will defend itself without your permission. Hamas will never give up trying to kill Jews, despite your self-delusion. Canada doesn't have any diplomatic or military power anymore. This is purely for domestic political consumption. You're going for the antisemitic vote, which you grow every year through mass immigration from terrorist countries like Afghanistan, Syria and Somalia.
You haven't done anything useful for anyone, including for Palestinians. You've just debased our own country -- and rewarded the same kind of terrorists who murdered 165 Canadians in Afghanistan.
Why did Israel strike in Qatar? Take ten minutes and listen to my speech at the United Nations Security Council, in response to the accusations made by the Prime Minister of Qatar >>
I’m embarrassed for our youth that I need to restate some truly basic facts and values, but to those who create a moral equivalence between Israel’s actions in Gaza and the murder today by a Palestinian terrorist of an Israeli pregnant mother driving to the hospital to give birth, I will repeat the following:
1) Israel entered Gaza in a defensive war after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and murdered, raped, burned and kidnapped approximately 1400 Israelis.
2) Hamas and its many supporters in Gaza and elsewhere celebrated this barbaric attack and vowed to continue attacking Israelis.
3) Hamas’ strategy included falsely claiming that Israel was targeting civilians to gain international sympathy. The “Gaza Health Ministry” now admits that its numbers were fake — more than 70% of Gazans killed in this war were adult males engaged in the fighting.
4) Hamas hides behind civilians and in locations that, under normal circumstances, would be considered civilian facilities. Israel has the legal right to strike those facilities when Hamas deploys them to fire rockets and attack Israelis. Israel never targets civilians.
5) All civilian casualties in Gaza are the responsibility of Hamas. Hamas puts them in harms way for strategic purposes and commandeers their humanitarian aid.
6) Since Israel’s independence, the Arab population in areas under Israeli control has grown more than ten fold. Not only is Israel not engaged in genocide, but its facilitation of massive growth of a largely hostile ethnic group is unprecedented in world history.
7) Israel’s Declaration of Independence expressly invites its Arab population to peacefully coexist within the Jewish State. This is a core Israeli value.
The fact that most students on American universities are unfamiliar with these basic principles represents a dark stain on our educational system.
Australia. Utterly terrifying. You think they care who gets killed? Just the Jews? No chance. THIS IS WHO YOU MARCH FOR?! A potential ‘mass casualty event’ foiled. In our country, our city, our suburb? ENOUGH. WAKE UP.
Wow. Extremely moving speech.
Share everywhere.
“Jews are the canary in the coal mine”
“15 months ago that canary died on Oct 7th”
One of the most important speeches you will see.
If there is one video you should watch today it’s 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙚.
Please put aside 20 mins to watch @lauder_ronald at the Holocaust Memorial.
The burning of the Adass Israel synagogue in Melbourne is an abhorrent act of antisemitism. I expect the state authorities to use their full weight to prevent such antisemitic acts in the future.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to separate this reprehensible act from the extreme anti-Israeli position of the Labor government in Australia, including the scandalous decision to support the UN resolution calling on Israel "to bring an end to its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, as rapidly as possible", and preventing a former Israeli minister from entering the country.
Anti-Israel sentiment is antisemitism.
