The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) has issued a statement alleging biased treatment towards the Kuki community and called for impartial investigations into recent incidents linked to the ongoing unrest in Manipur.
In a press statement issued on May 27, the organisation questioned the arrest of four Kuki individuals in Kangpokpi district in connection with the disappearance of six Naga persons in Senapati district, while alleging that there has been limited progress in the investigation into the killing of three Kuki pastors on May 13, 2026.
KHRC also raised concerns regarding 14 Kuki civilians who are reportedly still being held hostage and alleged delays in action by both state and central authorities.
The organisation further claimed that while security agencies have conducted operations against certain Kuki militant leaders, alleged leaders of other armed groups continue to operate freely. These allegations have not been independently verified.
In its statement, KHRC referred to past incidents of violence involving the Kuki community and called for equal protection under the law, accountability and fair investigation into all cases related to the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
The organisation appealed for intervention by national and international human rights bodies to ensure impartial investigations, protection of civilians and the release of those allegedly being held captive.

At a time when the majority of Kuki hostages are allegedly being held captive by NSCN-IM proxy CSOs and SDSA, public attention remains focused only on the six Naga hostages. What about the 14 Kuki hostages? Are their lives considered less valuable?
With the demand for the release of the 14 Kuki hostages still unmet, a shutdown has been imposed. In response, the UNC announced a counter-shutdown, resulting in severe hardship for Nepali, Kuki, and Naga communities residing within Kangpokpi district, all of whom are now struggling to access essential supplies.
Today, trucks carrying essential commodities were reportedly blocked by Naga women protesters. At a time when the state remains in a highly volatile situation, such actions only deepen mistrust and fuel further misunderstanding among communities. The question remains: who are the forces encouraging these acts and pushing the state further toward instability?

โ Tangkhul-Naga Village Guards, the outfit responsible for the kidnapping of Kuki civilians in Senapati has publicly issued a "DEAD or ALIVE" bounty against the Addl. SP (Law & Order) of Senapati Dist.
โ An entity that kidnaps civilians & explicitly issues death warrants against senior @manipur_police MPS officers has forfeited all Rights to legitimacy & cannot be tolerated as legitimate stakeholders in any Civil Society.
โThe NVG must be stripped of any semblance of legitimacy & should be unequivocally designated & prosecuted as a terrorist organization.

Manipur : Kuki Inpi Manipur has extended the 48-hour shutdown by another 48 hours. The extended shutdown will take effect from midnight May 17, 2026. This is due to government inaction on its May 14 Charter of Demands. It also follows the failure to rescue Kuki individuals taken hostage in Senapati.

The Kuki Studentsโ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) vehemently condemns the desperate attempt by the United Naga Council and Senapati District Studentsโ Association to whitewash the brutal killing of three innocent pastors through misleading press statements and manufactured justifications.
The absurd narrative of keeping Kuki-Zo civilians as hostages to somehow rationalize or dilute the gravity of the crime is not only irrational but morally bankrupt. Innocent civilians cannot be used as bargaining chips to shield perpetrators or manipulate public perception.
The cold-blooded murder of church leaders and the continued illegal detention of civilians have shaken the conscience of the people.Any organization attempting to normalize or defend such acts stands exposed before the public.
KSO-SH demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and calls upon the authorities to act decisively against every individual and group involved in these inhumane acts.

A rare voice of sanity from Zeliang and Kuki, Ahthibung subdivision. They strongly condemned killings, kidnappings, hostage-taking and attacks on pastors and civilians, while reaffirming the historic ZeliangโKuki brotherhood in Ahthibung & calling for peace, restraint & humanity.
An appeal for peace and human decency from the Speaker of Mizoram Legislative Assembly. However, if these appeals are perceived as weakness, we will have to take action to correct that perception.

A 16-year-old Class XI student, Hengunsei Khongsai, who is 38% disabled and an orphan raised by his uncle, was allegedly kidnapped by NSCN-IM militants on 13 May 2026 while doing daily wage work during his school holidays. He is among the 14 hostages whose whereabouts remain unknown.
We urgently appeal to the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, and security agencies to intervene immediately and ensure the safe rescue of all hostages. No child, especially a disabled minor struggling through poverty, should suffer such brutality. Silence will only embolden armed groups further.

๐จManipur Hostage Crisis:
Physically-Handicapped Orphan Minor among Kuki Hostages in Senapati.
โ One of the youngest Kuki hostage is not only a minor but also an Orphan battling Muscular Dystrophy & clinically certified as 38% permanently disabled.
But crushed & compelled by dire poverty, he routinely worked back-breaking daily wage labour during his holidays, despite his Physical disability, just to put food on the table for his remaining family.
โ It was on one such desperate day, while he was simply trying to survive & feed his loved ones, that he was kidnapped by the Senapati Students' Organisation right in front of Mt. Everest School in Senapati.
He, along with the other kuki hostages were forcibly kidnapped & dragged away in broad daylight, even as they were under the protection & escort of the Police.
To this day, his whereabouts remain unknown.

The Kuki Community continues to face grave injustice. 3 Pastors mercilessly killed 29 civilians abducted. Kuki freed all the Manipur Nagas hostages. 14 Kuki men remained unaccounted for. We demand decisive and public clarification on the whereabouts of the 14 Kuki civilians.
Whether Kuki or Thadou, any violence against Chin-Kuki-Mizo people deeply concerns Mizos, ZPM stated. ZPM strongly condemns the brutal killing of a church leader & abduction of Kuki civilians calling it a barbaric act of terror and an inhumane crime. @PTI_News@NENowNews
Mocking 3 murdered KukiZo Pastors is beyond shameful. These were men of faith slain in cold blood that a Meitei individual would ridicule their deaths is a desecration of the Kuki People. We demand decency. Mocking the slain is inhumane.

CONDEMNATION
I strongly condemn the heinous act of violence perpetrated by militants, which resulted in the tragic killing of three Kuki church leaders Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Rev. Paogoulen Sitlhou on 13th May 2026 in Kangpokpi District, Manipur.

(7) On 13th May 2026, the killing of TBA pastors was carried out by NSCN-IM using the name โZUF-Kamson.โ The incident in Ukhrul District was an attempt to divert the ongoing Tangkhul-Kuki conflict and to drag the Zeliangrong community into it, similar to the 1992 conflict. The intention is to turn the Tangkhul-Kuki conflict into a second wave of dirty politics, so that both the Kuki and Zeliangrong communities suffer.
Let peace and harmony prevail in Tamenglong and Noney districts in the days to come. May the two districts be free from the destructive policies of the Tangkhul.
From
Dr. Adim
