🚨Conversion Cartels Under Fire: India’s FCRA Crackdown Slams the Door on Foreign-Funded Religious Conversion

For decades, foreign-funded NGOs accused of operating conversion networks allegedly hid behind labels such as "religious education," "faith preservation," and "social service." Now, the Government of India has moved to shut those loopholes with sweeping changes to the FCRA framework.

The revised rules explicitly exclude proselytisation (religious conversion efforts) from several religious activity categories, making it far more difficult for organisations to use foreign donations for conversion-related activities while claiming charitable or educational objectives.

The crackdown goes much further. NGOs will now face stricter scrutiny of their social media activities, mandatory disclosure of ultimate foreign donors, tighter restrictions on foreign nationals holding key positions, field verification of how funds are actually spent, and the risk of licence cancellation for dormant organisations.

The message from New Delhi is unmistakable: foreign money entering India must be transparent, accountable, and aligned with declared objectives. The era of operating under vague religious or social-service umbrellas while pursuing undisclosed agendas is facing unprecedented regulatory pressure.

Coming amid growing international lobbying and criticism of India's FCRA regime, the move is also being seen as a strong assertion of India's sovereign right to regulate foreign influence within its borders. Supporters argue that the amendments protect vulnerable communities from foreign-funded conversion campaigns, while ensuring that genuine charitable and developmental work remains unaffected.

The bottom line: India has drawn a clear red line, foreign funding may support welfare, education, and humanitarian work, but it cannot be used as a backdoor for religious conversion or opaque influence operations. The compliance burden has gone up, the loopholes have narrowed, and the scrutiny has never been tougher.

Bangladesh Police have recovered the body of a protocol official from the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong. The body was subsequently sent to the morgue at Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital for autopsy.

Setting new global benchmarks in highway engineering 🛣️, NHAI has created history by achieving two more Guinness World Records in continuous Bituminous Concrete paving.

A record 156 lane-km of paving and 57,500 MT of Bituminous Concrete were laid continuously, surpassing the previous world record of 84.4 lane-km. Achieved across Package-2 and Package-3 of the 6-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor near Puttaparthi, this milestone was enabled by advanced machinery, robust logistics, and stringent quality control, with support from premier institutions like IIT Bombay.

Earlier, on 6 January 2026, NHAI had already set two global records on the same corridor by laying 28.8 lane-km and 10,655 MT of Bituminous Concrete within 24 hours. Under the visionary leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, these achievements highlight India 🇮🇳’s rising leadership in world-class highway infrastructure and large-scale project execution.
