Leaving this here just in case a @X engineer comes across it. Deleting my X app today. @X started showing a lot of politicized content on my "For You" feed. The #algorithm then seems to have entered into a positive feedback loop. Now my feed is littered with "toxic" content (I don't like using buzzwords but that's what it is). Now, every time I use X, I end up feeling angry, frustrated, dismayed, and even somewhat vindictive. This is not a healthy relationship with social media. Obviously, my own habits on this app are partially to blame, but at the same time I believe the algorithm should deal a more "even" hand when it decides which content to show. Afterall, this isn't fb! Just my $0.02. Cya sometime in the future.
@DanMulroyjr Calculus is the mathematics of change. If you’re taking a calc course you’re probably targeting a hard science or engineering field in college. Calc is the fundamental language of most of these fields. CS arguably is more based in linear
algebra.
@amuse Here is a close up of the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas. The surface is made up of an array of around 1.2 million LED pucks, each consisting of 48 individual LEDs and designed by SACO. You can see the sphere being calibrated in the video https://t.co/OqEDEZvYtT
VR has been around for centuries! This early attempt at a view master is from the 1830’s.

Babies’ nervous systems are developing so quickly that sensations, sounds, and sights can be intense and disorienting. As such, grass makes many small contact points with skin and this can be very overwhelming for an infant

Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by animals. The exact reason for this phenomenon is still unknown however in some cases we do know that it is used to attract pray or scare off predators.

@BrennaDIsMe@PicturesFoIder For simple math it is useless but when you get into calculus you don’t have a choice but to think about math in this way. Why not start early?
@David24843470@PicturesFoIder I believe there is a deeper issue there with our education system as a whole, kids are good at whatever they are interested in
TIL after walking into a spider web and observing the spider eat the remains of its web that spiders will do this to recycle the long chain amino acids that make up the web.

This is called common core math, albeit controversial it attempts to teach a different way of thinking about basic math operations. The idea is that you don’t think of numbers as objects but as groups of 1’s. So then you can say 8+9 = 7+9+1 = 7+10 = 17. This may seem arbitrarily complex for simple operations like addition but this way of thinking about math becomes essential starting in pre-calculus and beyond where complex expressions can be reduced down to simple and solvable concepts.
Here’s a video going over the intended idea behind the concept: https://t.co/ASk627u7E9
It has no purpose now or here but like any innovation we have to look towards the future! For example, when we colonize the moon and mars it will be much cheaper, much more energy efficient, and much cleaner (do you really want that many animals transmitting disease on a closed loop air and water system?) to grow lab meat instead of raising live stock. This is great and is going to be a vital technology of humanity is going to be exploring space.
The boat is not heavy enough to keep that much air below sea level. The pressure from the surrounding water would push the air up, and the boat with it, to the surface. This is called buoyancy. They would need more weight to keep the boat underwater.
Here’s a better explanation of buoyancy:
