@farley682@fasc1nate Your understanding is correct, in fact he’s generally considered to be the most decorated US soldier of all time, although that distinction is technically more ambiguous as there is no formal definition of “decorated” across the duration of our nation’s history
@BeschlossDC Technically the last Mercury astronaut in space was Deke Slayton, although Slayton never flew a Mercury mission. Grounded due to a heart murmur until 1972, Slayton was part of the crew for Apollo-Soyuz in 1973
@For_Film_Fans Thanks for prompting us to remember Harryhausen, too few do know of his work today. I try to raise awareness of the contributions by the likes of Willis O’Brien, Ray Harryhausen, and Phil Tippett in the art of stop motion animation every chance I get
@engineers_feed Here’s what I heard:
They stacked random books in the room for the photo op. Was it all code? Probably. Was it hand written? No. Was it comprehensive? No. Was there duplication? Likely. Was it all Hamilton’s code? Certainly not
@ATRightMovies Kastel also created the paperback cover for “Jaws,” which he refined for the movie poster. The concept of the shark coming from the deep to attack the swimmer came from the first edition dust wrapper, as designed by Paul Bacon, but that first edition artwork frankly looks silly
@CommandoBond@Guns_com That’s awesome! You might be interested in this project, too. I’m having somebody else make replicas of the stocks. LT Arms is also redoing the front sight blade for me; funny story, they only got the profile wrong because their printer cropped the image I sent them
Smith & Wesson Fitz Special!
Our typical "Fitz Special" is built from a Colt donor pistol, but this time around we used a Smith & Wesson Victory model revolver. We took this revolver down to bare metal and recreated all of the proof marks and manufacturer's stamps before rebluing the frame and barrel. We then nickel-plated the cylinder, giving this vintage S&W a completely new look to complete this one-of-a-kind Fitz. #revolver #fitzspecial #smithandwesson #wheelgun #wheelgunwednesday
@LTArms1 This is my gun, LT Arms did an amazing job of replicating Geoffrey Boothroyd’s pistol, as famously featured on the cover of Ian Fleming’s “From Russia With Love”
@EddieP64515@sw_holocron@WarwickADavis As far as I’m able to tell, he “…doubled Yoda in some of his ‘walking’ scenes in The Phantom Menace,” it’s a bit of a stretch to say he played the character
@ScienceMagazine@ScienceAdvances To add a meaningful caption to the photo:
Top: A spider in the suborder Mesothelae (the most primitive form of spiders still extant) showing primitive spinnerets.
Bottom: A vinegaroon, another extant primitive arachnid, but devoid of spinnerets
@InsaneReality Either way, the only thing you could realistically argue as “carelessness” is that he wasn’t pointing the gun toward the target when he chambered the first round, always a good idea, to mitigate the risk of just such a malfunction
@InsaneReality The firing pin block is a passive safety that blocks the firing pin until the trigger is fully pressed. This gun looks like a Beretta, and while Beretta has made guns without firing pin blocks historically, I’m unaware of any that feature a squared trigger guard. A mystery
