@suad_a62129 HDM was ahead of its time. Their call for federalism, equal representation and regional autonomy was not about dividing Somalia, but ensuring that no community would be politically marginalized. Their vision was rejected, and history has shown why their concerns mattered.
@Alidafarr@AarkaHawd@muhibbuddinab@UdubkaSomalia No, Marehan are not native to Gedo. They came to the region very recently. Gedo was already home to established communities, including Gasaargude, Gawaweyn, Maalinweyn, Degodia and Garre, long before Marehan became politically dominant there.
@w5heo Thanks, I appreciate it. No, I wasn’t born in the north. My mother’s family relocated to Barawe during the droughts, while my father was a trader operating there. That’s where my parents eventually crossed paths.
@Alidafarr@AarkaHawd@muhibbuddinab@UdubkaSomalia Actually, Marehan were welcomed into Gedo by the Gasaargude Sultanate, under the rule of Ali Hassan Nur. Their original roots, however, trace back to central Somalia.
@Alidafarr@AarkaHawd@muhibbuddinab@UdubkaSomalia There’s no beef between Reewin and Isaaq. We don’t even share a border. Funny how people from the North, particularly Isaaq, constantly bring up Rahanweyn and Southern Somalia. You rarely see Reewin discussing Isaaq or Northern Somalia. The interest is clearly one sided ☝️
