@jenna__macinnis I agree! I feel as though social media has perhaps "made up" for the lack of immediate access that the US has. By this I mean that platforms like youtube, instagram, and facebook might have provided a space for lesser known artists to become 'discovered'. #POPMUSW22
@anik_mun Hi Imtiaz, I agree! It is unfortunate that it would take me a few minutes to be able to come up with 10 artists from Canada, yet it would take me just a couple of seconds to list off 10 from the US. #POPMUSW22
I think that it is important to enforce a quota for Canadian content, as this will allow artists to have more opportunities to be heard and ultimately discovered by listeners across the world. #POPMUSW22
@JordanBarter12#POPMUSW22 I agree! I have been fortunate to have been able to (pre-pandemic) travel to see some of my favorite artists, however it is VERY expensive. Normally the concert ticket itself ends up being the cheapest part of the trip!
@zoe_polymath#POPMUSW22 You make a great point about how although it may be easier to listen to recording- that does not mean that is is better. There are so many different aspects of a concert that are enjoyable!
I do not agree with Wald's assessment, because I personally love going to concerts. Seeing your favorite artist perform is amazing. I don't go to 'cover band' shows, although some artists have covered other songs, such as Moon River by Frank Ocean (Orig by A. Hepburn) #POPMUSW22
@DunphyMackenzie Hi Mackenzie, I completely agree! Covers of songs can be very interesting, however credit should always be given as composing a song takes a lot of work! #POPMUSW22
I think that this is an interesting topic, because while covering songs is widely popular, the issue lies when/ if; the artist used the song in a way that is appropriating culture, making profit, lack of acknowledgement to the artist/culture. #POPMUSW22
@OliviaR34156685 I also found it interesting! In the original song the lyrics are "She gives me money when I'm in need", but in Gold Digger, it's changed to 'She take my money when I'm in need", so they've sampled the song but made the relationship/ situation the opposite. #POPMUSW22
I think that Ray Charles used a breaking voice as a way to really convey his emotions, and this helps lure the listener in. What I think it has in common with other blues songs is that it's catchy, and includes a range of different sounds (including brass instruments) #POPMUSW22
@vianne_timmons @MemorialU This specific class is discussion based and is 3 hours long. So, I feel like it would also be an issue that we won't be able to drink water.
Hypothetically speaking, if a class were to do an anon survey, and within 3 hrs, had a 70% completion rate (with all stating that they wanted to stay online), why can't we decide as a whole, to stay online to keep ourselves & other safe? @MUNSU35 @vianne_timmons @MemorialU
@vianne_timmons @MemorialU Regardless of the update from MUN today, I would still like to know about this situation, please. It doesn't make sense if the majority of students in the class want to continue online, why make us go back if we don't want to?
@JennaleeRalph I agree! A friend showed me their 'wrapped', but laughed & said that they would never post it to Instagram like others had been, because her taste in music was different from others- she loves Broadway musical scores. She felt embarrassed, which is heartbreaking! #POPMUSW22
@Zoeycross1 @bmrowe17 Unfortunately, I think in today's society, there is a pressure to 'be like others' & show their peers that they have $/can afford the newest product, thus, using your point, they could spend their whole pay check trying to 'keep up' with others, which is not practical #POPMUSW22
@MemorialU Really needs to listen to the concerns of students/staff. Simply saying "return to campus" is not suitable for everyone. Allow profs to continue with remote teaching if they want to, & allow for students to determine themselves if they should stay home or go on campus.
I believe that some (not all) individuals that own 'AirPods', wear them to accessorize their outfits, which can help demonstrate to others that they can afford the latest and best new products. I will note that they are definitely convenient, as there are no cords! #POPMUSW22
@CFloden02 Hi- you make a great point about catchiness. Sometimes if I am somewhere where the radio is on and I hear a "new" song, I find myself questioning the meaning/lyrics of the song- an example of this is Blurred Lines- R. Thicke & Pharrell (which promotes rape culture) #POPMUSW22
