Statement of Appreciation on the Occasion of Madaraka Day Celebrations in Wajir
The hosting of this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir is a historic and fitting recognition of the important place that Wajir occupies in the history of Kenya and the former Northern Frontier District (NFD).
Wajir is rightly regarded as the cradle of both politics and education in the former NFD. It played a pivotal role during both the colonial and post-independence periods and has produced many leaders who have contributed to the development and governance of our nation. It was also in Wajir that the first primary and the first secondary school in the region were established, laying the foundation for education and human capital development across North Eastern Kenya.
For these reasons, it is particularly befitting that this national celebration is being hosted in Wajir. The occasion not only honours the region’s rich historical contribution to Kenya’s nationhood but also symbolizes the progress that has been made in integrating and developing all parts of our country.
I commend the administration of His Excellency William Ruto for this thoughtful decision and for the impressive infrastructure investments being undertaken across the region. These developments are improving connectivity, expanding opportunities, and enhancing the quality of life for our people.
As we celebrate Madaraka Day, we are reminded that true freedom and nation-building are strengthened when every region is recognized, included, and empowered. Wajir’s selection as the host county sends a strong message of national unity, inclusion, and shared prosperity.
May this occasion inspire us all to continue building a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Kenya for future generations.
Happy Madaraka Day. God bless Wajir, North Eastern Kenya, and the Republic of Kenya. @WilliamsRuto@HEAhmedJiir
I wish to congratulate my brother and friend, @AdanMohamedCS ,on his appointment as the next Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority.
This appointment is a fitting recognition of a distinguished career spanning over three decades in both the financial and public sectors. As a former CEO and Managing Director of Barclays Bank Kenya, East and west Africa and a graduate of Harvard Business School ,the University of Nairobi, and a Chartered Accountant, he brings to this office exceptional knowledge, leadership, and experience.
His service as Chief of Strategy Execution in the Executive Office of the President further demonstrated his capacity to deliver on complex national priorities with vision and professionalism. I am confident that under his stewardship, KRA will continue to strengthen revenue mobilization, institutional excellence, and public confidence.
I also take this opportunity to thank H.E. President William Ruto for making this important appointment and for his continued confidence in capable Kenyan professionals from the North to serve this nation.
Wishing Adan Mohamed every success and Allah’s guidance as he undertakes this important national responsibility in service to Kenya.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un!
I am deeply saddened by the painful attack on innocent people who were travelling for a religious mission in the Omar Jilacow area. My heartfelt condolences go to the families who lost their loved ones, to the injured as they recover from this tragic incident, and to the larger Weytan family during this difficult moment.
No family should go through such pain. These innocent wananchi were peaceful people, and such violence is wrong and unacceptable. Mandera needs peace, unity, and safety for all communities.
I call upon the security agencies to act swiftly, assist the victims, and bring those responsible to justice. At this difficult moment, let us stand together, support the affected families, and pray for lasting peace in our land.
May Allah forgive the departed souls, grant them Jannatul Firdowsa, and give their families strength, patience, and comfort during this painful time.
Warmest congratulations to Justice Mohamed Abdullahi Warsame on his well deserved nomination to the Supreme Court of Kenya.
His distinguished service, integrity, and commitment to justice have earned him this important milestone. Wishing him continued strength and wisdom as he takes on this great responsibility in upholding the rule of law and serving the people of Kenya.

Leadership should never be reduced to age brackets or labels. Experience is not “the past” ,it is the foundation upon which any meaningful future is built.
Those you place in “Line up B” have served this county and nation with distinction, wisdom, and institutional memory that cannot be replaced by numbers alone. Equally, those in “Line up A” bring energy and continuity. The real strength of leadership lies in combining both ,not dismissing one. Be guided .
Ati FURKESHA Leaders! My foot. leaders or retires. Picture this:
- Line up A - Ali Roba, PS Madey, Hon Kore, Pres Jibril - average age - 50 yrs.
Line up B- Sen Mumad, Sen Bilow, Adan Haji - ave age - 75 yrs.
Conclusion : Line up A - building future
Line up B- past.
Statement on the Proposed Airport Project in Mandera
My dear people of Mandera,
I am aware of the ongoing concerns regarding the proposed development being presented as an international airport, particularly the reports that the land in question is reserved under the Ministry of Defence.
An airport whether international or otherwise, would be transformative for Mandera, opening opportunities for trade, investment, jobs, medical evacuation, and regional connectivity. We cannot oppose progress. However, development must be transparent, lawful, and in the best interest of the people.
If the land is indeed reserved under the Ministry of Defence, then the public deserves clarity. Is this a civilian airport under the Kenya Airports Authority, or is it a military facility? The distinction matters.
The following must happen:
1. The relevant national authorities - including the National Land Commission, Ministry of Defence and the Kenya Airports Authority must provide a clear, written explanation of the project’s nature and ownership structure.
2. There must be public participation in line with the Constitution of Kenya.
3. If this is a dual-use facility (civilian and military). that too must be openly declared.
This issue must not divide us. We should not turn against each other. Instead, we must unite around one simple principle: transparency, legality, and civilian benefit.
Mandera is one family.
We must not be divided over development. Our unity is our greatest strength. Let us approach this matter calmly, consult widely, and ensure that whatever decision is made ultimately serves the interests of our people.
Rather than debating through the press, I believe our leaders should sit together, study the facts, and engage the relevant national institutions to obtain clear information about the project.
The national authorities and the county government of Mandera must engage openly with the leadership and the people of Mandera so that we move forward together.
I therefore call upon all leaders, elders, professionals, and community members to lower the temperature of the debate and allow room for constructive dialogue.
I was there. A few brothers got minor injuries . The assailant was overpowered and handed over to the police. Apparently , he is said to be a regular prayer in the mosque .
Early this morning, 28th February 2026 at around 5:30AM, as faithful Kenyans gathered for prayers at Wayaki Way Mosque in Westlands, chaos erupted when this mkora suddenly pulled out a weapon and began attacking worshippers.
Congratulations!
My Heartfelt congratulations to Hafidh Maalim Ibrahim , for being awarded the national honor of OGW by President William Ruto .This recognition is well-deserved, and we celebrate your exemplary commitment to the public good.
I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga. Kenya has lost a towering statesman, a relentless champion of democracy, and a visionary leader whose life’s work shaped the political, social, and economic landscape of our nation.
Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga dedicated his life to the struggle for justice, equality, and good governance. His courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the people of Kenya inspired generations and left an indelible mark on our history.
On behalf of the people of Mandera County, my family, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga, the entire Odinga family, friends, and the people of Kenya during this difficult time.
I had the honor to participate in
the fundraising event for madrasas in Mandera, presided over by HE president @WilliamsRuto this evening in a Nairobi hotel. It was a great event.
فَابْتَغُوا عِندَ اللَّهِ الرِّزْقَ وَاعْبُدُوهُ وَاشْكُرُوا لَهُ ۖ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
So seek from Allah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."
