Thrilled to share our new @JExpMed paper: Autoantibodies against type I IFN were the hidden killer in the first US H5N1 fatality (a 71-year-old man from Louisiana). Turns out the deadliest part of bird flu can be our own immune system going rogue. https://t.co/CFDTLDLmG5
1/ A year ago, a 71-year-old Louisiana man died from H5N1, marking the first avian flu death in the US. Now we report in @JExpMed that the cause of his death is rogue autoantibodies neutralizing type I IFN (AutoAb-IFN). https://t.co/L3COz2taJR
What is the cause of RARE cases of myocarditis following COVID-19 mRNA vaccination?

Thankful to work with a great team of scientists & physicians from all over the world.

Paul Bastard of the @casanova_lab and @Inserm has won the @MichelsonPhils & @ScienceMagazine Prize for Immunology for revealing factors that underlie varied susceptibilities to #COVID19. Congratulations!

1/ Here is a review in @Nature by the https://t.co/vuxFKEuYEs of the human #genetic and immunological determinants of life-threatening #COVID-19 (https://t.co/LsIIRmZPdb).
📣 Prof. Jean-Laurent Casanova (@casanova_lab), researcher at @RockefellerUniv, has been chosen as winner of the @AbarcaPrize for his study of #infectiousdiseases, including Covid-19, and for solving the “infection enigma”.

1/ In this 2nd @SciImmunology paper (https://t.co/EMZrAkMNM1), we show pre-existing auto-Abs neutralizing low physiological concentrations of type I IFNs account for 15% of critical COVID-19 cases, including 20% of critical cases in patients >80 yrs and 20% of deaths across ages.
Happy and honored to be part of this great research!!! Huge effort not only of people like me were doing experiments but also from physicians and patients around the world.
1/ In this first @SciImmunology paper (https://t.co/1uTHUO7w9c), we show that at least 1% of men younger than 60 years with life-threatening COVID-19 are sick because of X-linked recessive (XR) TLR7 deficiency.
Happy to share my first PhD paper investigating the mechanism by which human PKCD deficiency underlies susceptibility to infectious disease. Published today in @JExpMed https://t.co/byf9TIO3u8 @casanova_lab
Congratulations to Tom Le Voyer for his important contribution in the first international cohort of patients with autosomal recessive STAT1 deficiency. Thanks so much to all collaborators in the world. https://t.co/R6Jl2rxiFE

Just how sick we get from #COVID19 depends on genetic variations, including ones that sabotage immune molecules called interferons. Check out this @KnowableMag piece from @timvernimmen on the @casanova_lab's work to better understand why: https://t.co/xECSXQZFok
