I agree there would be a lot of scaffolding involved. For example, you could start with review of very simple examples of perimeter & build up.

I agree that teachers should give these students objects for measurement that are familiar to them. This is necessary so that they can conceptualize sizes. This also gives them practice with texture and touch.

These small activities give the children real world examples while preparing them for dealing w/money in the future.

Even I struggled with place value in our 1125 class when looking at a problem from a studentsโ perspective. Giving authentic experiences with physical materials and working with them on composing and decomposing is the best way for them to master these skills!

This could also help build their confidence in their math abilities, especially if they find the error in their thinking
