Are LLMs the “Steam Engines” of the Cognitive Industrial Revolution?
The current state of LLMs reminds me of the steam engines at the dawn of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. The engineers discovered steam power and put it to all kinds of use before they understood what was going on. It took about a century for the science of steam engines to be developed, namely, statistical thermodynamics.
Similarly, at the dawn of the automated cognition (i.e., AI) revolution, LLMs are in that state - lots of applications but little understanding!
So, the crucial question before us is: What is the “Thermodynamics” of LLMs?

@QuestioningEcon@NovelloAmanda How much inequality is fair is a 200-year old open question that mainstream economics has largely ignored. See my recent book for a new theory that rethinks inequality #rethinkinequality. How Much Inequality is Fair?, https://t.co/XdCxuXxa7P…
@rethinkecon It’s time rethink inequality as well @rethinkinequality. In a recent book, How Much Inequality is Fair?, https://t.co/XdCxuXxa7P…, I propose a new theory that shows mathematically that the Scandinavian countries come close to an “ideal” free-market society in inequality.
@paulkrugman In a recent book, How Much Inequality is Fair?, (link: https://t.co/5HSGXPqV4z) https://t.co/XdCxuXxa7P…, I show mathematically that the Scandinavian countries come close to an “ideal” free-market society. I also show how the US was almost “Scandinavian” during 1945-75.

Yes, but what would be a fair share? I discuss this in my recent book “How Much Inequality is Fair?” #inequality#fairinequality https://t.co/zrrnL8eWIJ https://t.co/2UbsmJ2ha3
