10 yrs ago, a group of us started @IntlBrainLab b/c we thought neuroscience needed more big, open datasets & multi-lab efforts. Seeing this approach now asking questions about aging brains, questions none of us could easily answer alone, is exactly why we built it this way.
This year, Shadow A Scientist hosted 7 UNC campus visits, welcoming 199 high school students for lab shadowing, campus tours, Lunch & Learns, Fold-it tutorials, and Paths in Science presentations.
Thank you to our ambassadors, Executive Board, and sponsor @RosettaCommons.

We found cell type-specific changes in the cortical circuit of Huntington’s disease mice. Optogenetic stimulation of VIP cells rescued circuit defects and improved motor function.
APS PhD student Jovan Tormes-Vaquerano @JovanTV mentored high school students this summer in the WinSPIRE program seeking to shape a diverse future in science & tech & was joined by @ReaganBullins, Shannon Rhoads @ShanRhoads & Amanda Brown @AmandaB10533673

Want to filter out artifacts from Neuropixel recordings? There's something you should know: not all channels are recorded simultaneously! If you don't correct for this before filtering you still end up with artifacts. Join me for a deep dive in Neuropixel acquisition👇
We had a fantastic time hosting students from Panther Creek High School last Friday! Thank you students, ambassadors, & the exec team for making this all possible!
Fantastic showing with the NSF GRFP this year! Congrats to awardees @oliviasteiner28, @DhuviKarthikey1, McKenzie Grundy, @cole_398, Eva Mei Shouse, @RRSharp122, and Glory Dan-Dukor, plus honorable mentions for @EberhardQuinn, @addie_coke, @ReaganBullins, and @meganbrienne!
Do you want to use a DMD to modulate light in your setup without spending 10+k$ on a custom devlopment board? My (amazing) students @Mariamag0614@VinceRCurtis and @e_11_ie made this video to show you how to isolate the chip in a <$200 videoprojector ! https://t.co/rnsOJXKkyP
I am happy to share our new paper now on @Science. We discovered that rapid eye movements (REM) during sleep provide a readout of the internal representation of head direction, suggesting they could reveal gaze shifts in dreams. Link:https://t.co/eRHm09yJAa -Brief🧵follows⬇️ 1/7
@neuromatch 2022 is a wrap! I had a great experience working with a talented group of people and learning all things computational neuroscience.
After 3 packed weeks, now I’m going to take a break and try to not see Poisson distributions everywhere I look 👀
Thanks to all!
