Very excited to share our new story in @NatureCancer! Together w/ Liz, we found a great way to sensitively detect *and* molecularly characterize circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and its precursor conditions! #mmsm /1

🙌 ICYMI: @IrenemGhobrial and @RomanosSP, of @DanaFarber, discussed a novel, single cell, sequencing-based blood test for multiple myeloma called SWIFT-seq that can enable molecular profiling from the blood.

❓ Some people with multiple myeloma respond well to CAR T-cell therapy, but others relapse when the cancer finds ways to hide. Why does that happen, and how can we fix it?
➡️ Dr. Fabiana Perna and colleagues at Moffitt Cancer Center, found that one reason is that some myeloma cells don’t have enough of a target protein called BCMA, which CAR T cells need to find and attack the cancer.
➡️ To solve this, the team designed a new kind of CAR T cell that looks for a different target called SEMA4A. This protein is common on myeloma cells—even in patients whose cancer came back after BCMA-CAR T therapy.
➡️ In lab and mouse studies, these SEMA4A-CAR T cells destroyed myeloma cells that regular BCMA-CAR T cells couldn’t reach, showing promise for treating relapsed patients in the future.
🌟 This research could lead to next-generation cell therapies that keep multiple myeloma from coming back and help more patients stay cancer-free longer. @fabianaperna@MoffittNews

Drs. @IrenemGhobrial, @RomanosSP, and Elizabeth Lightbody at @DanaFarber have developed a blood test that could transform the diagnosis and monitoring of #MultipleMyeloma and its precursor conditions.

SWIFT-seq is a powerful option as it can measure the number of CTCs, characterize the genomic alterations of the tumor, estimate the tumor’s proliferative capacity and measure prognostically useful gene signatures in a single test and from a blood sample,” said Dr. @IrenemGhobrial #mmsm https://t.co/4cHNQ0k5J2
Through cutting-edge scRNAseq, @LabGhobrial confirms the potential of #CTCs for minimally invasive genomic profiling in #mmsm! 💪🩸
