@turbovax@RossBarkan Also worth noting that the W’burg upzoning was accompanied by major downzonings, including just up the L on the LES. The city’s development capacity did not actually increase. We just funneled all the growth into about three areas, and we were shocked-shocked(!) it didn’t work.
Without congestion pricing, the @mta is left with a $15 billion hole in its Capital Program and insufficient funding for planned expansion, infrastructure upgrades, and other projects.
This decision will hurt all New Yorkers, who deserve a world-class subway system.
On CNBC @GovKathyHochul says that "major employers in NYC" are "concerned" that congestion pricing will be an economic "setback."
Meanwhile, main business lobby @Partnership4NYC has been vocally supporting congestion pricing and opposing the delay.

The last two weeks have really solidified public understanding that if we don’t have the transit we deserve it’s not because the MTA isn’t trying, it’s because its leaders’ attempts to navigate toward a better future are systematically sabotaged from upstate (hi @GovKathyHochul!)
The $15 rate was proposed in November and approved in March. She had four months to recommend changes, but instead waited until now, the worst possible moment to throw everything into the blender.
And she STILL hasn’t even hinted at what the “right price” is she’s so unserious.
We have paralyzing levels of traffic in midtown and downtown—slowing emergency response times, harming our climate fight.
We have desperate funding needs in our subways—stations in need of renovations, outdated signaling etc.
How are we going to fix these things now??
New York City cannot say no to small businesses, corner stores and dancing. The #CityOfYes for Economic Opportunity plan will bring vibrant main streets back to neighborhoods.
We're all tired of empty storefronts — so let's say YES to filling them! https://t.co/Gp9dwg67HN
Linda Rosenthal’s district office is at 212-873-6368 and her Albany office is 518-455-5802, if any of you live in her district and are, in fact, worried about the supply of market-rate housing. Phone calls count more, but you can also email her here: https://t.co/SiPAqTz4dC
New York City has become uniquely hostile to tourists – no more short-term apartment rentals, no new hotels. Tourists are already starting to notice, but I think there’s a lot of room for hotel rates to rise, especially during the next economic boom https://t.co/NKmDObCR0F
The great jazz legend Pharoah Sanders has left this earth. Singular, unique, creative, avant-garde, independent man. Never will I forget, on my 21st birthday I saw him live in NY at 7th Ave. South. It made an indelible impact on my soul. Rest In Peace.
