After years of development in collaboration with @Peersyst, @axelar and the @RippleXDev community, the XRPL EVM Sidechain is now live on mainnet, with Axelar serving as the core infrastructure connecting the XRP Ledger, the new EVM environment, and native XRP to the multichain ecosystem.

This sidechain brings Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility to the XRP ecosystem for the first time, enabling developers to build, port, and deploy smart contract–enabled dApps using XRP as the native gas token, without modifying the core XRP Ledger.

And thanks to Axelar, the XRPL EVM isn’t launching in isolation. It’s launching directly into the $130B+ XRP liquidity base and connecting to 80+ blockchains.

WHAT IS XRPL AND WHY NOW?

The XRP Ledger’s focus on compliance, with over a decade of uninterrupted uptime, and its strong track record in institutional finance have made it attractive to banks, fintech platforms. However, it lacked native smart contract support, limiting developers who wanted to build programmable DeFi protocols, or complex dApps directly on XRPL.

The EVM Sidechain solves this, without compromising XRPL’s integrity. It runs in parallel, offering speed, and full Ethereum tooling compatibility (MetaMask, Hardhat, Solidity).

This gives developers the best of both worlds: XRPL’s efficiency and liquidity, paired with Ethereum’s programmability.

WHY AXELAR?

Axelar is the critical infrastructure layer connecting the XRPL EVM Sidechain to the XRP Ledger and the rest of Web3. It delivers three essential advantages:

1. Portability: Developers can migrate dApps from any chain using standard EVM tools.

2. Interoperability: Contracts can message apps on 80+ other chains using Axelar General Message Passing (GMP).

3. Liquidity Access: XRP flows natively across chains via Interchain Token Service (ITS), with no wrapped assets, no centralized bridges.
