Did you know that #nuclear energy generates around a quarter of the world’s low-carbon electricity?⠀

When compared with other sources of electricity from cradle to grave, nuclear energy has the lowest carbon footprint, uses fewer materials and takes up less land. For example, solar power needs more than 17 times as much material and 46 times as much land to produce one unit of energy.

As the world increasingly seeks secure, low-carbon sources of energy, nuclear power will continue playing a key role in the world’s energy mix.⠀

Training the next generation of experts in #NuclearSecurity!

Nineteen fellows of the IAEA Marie Sklodowska-Curie Programme are attending the @iaeaorg International School on Nuclear Security.
This year’s edition of the two-week school is hosted in #Japan 🇯🇵 and combines lectures with exercises, group activities and technical visits.

“Over the years, the IAEA has intensified its efforts to increase the sustainability of the workforce supporting nuclear security. The school is designed to provide fundamental knowledge and a comprehensive overview of key technical areas, including international legal framework, physical protection, transport security, detection, response and information and computer security,” said Elena Buglova, Director of the IAEA’s Division of Nuclear Security in her video message addressing the participants.

Since the launch of the IAEA Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme in 2020, about 230 fellows have participated in the IAEA’s nuclear security schools.

As a country 🇰🇪 we are moving from discussion to discovery, from research to application, and from prototypes to products that improve lives.
We must build Al systems that recognise our crops, understand our diseases, speak Kiswahili and other African languages, support our teachers, empower our enterprises and respond to the realities of our communities. The future of Africa must not simply be coded for us. It must be coded with us and increasingly coded by us. @_AfricanUnion Producing more from less for more.
Kenya & Africa in general must avoid outsourcing intelligence but develop capabilities across the entire Al value chain-from data and computing infrastructure to research, intellectual property, deployment and commercialisation.
#Al can improve productivity, expand access to knowledge and save lives. But it can also reproduce discrimination, violate privacy, spread misinformation, undermine democratic processes and displace workers. Responsible Al must therefore be grounded in human rights, fairness, transparency, security, accountability and meaningful human oversight.
I commend @DaystarUni under the leadership of Prof. @ayiro_p
for bringing together researchers, innovators, policymakers, industry, students and ethical leaders to address one of the defining questions of our generation: How do we harness artificial intelligence to expand human opportunity without diminishing human dignity?
