The Geneva Conventions, adopted 76 years ago today and ratified worldwide, are the backbone of international humanitarian law. They:
🔹 Protect those who are not or no longer fighting.
🔹 Save lives and reduce suffering.
Even in armed conflicts, humanity must prevail.
The Geneva Conventions were, are, and will be fundamental in setting clear boundaries to protect those who are not participating in hostilities.
Daniel Palmieri, an ICRC historian, explains why they continue to safeguard human dignity in situations of armed conflict 👇🏽

The deaths of our colleagues demand more than empty words of outrage: they demand action.
The international community cannot keep looking away as the rules of war are ignored, and humanitarian workers deliberately targeted while trying to save lives.
