Diagnosing autism in adult forensic settings https://t.co/rDDKmiBo1c Increasingly important. Often missed out of the 'missed diagnosis' discussions because of the CJS implications and because "autistic individuals are over-represented within prisons and secure hospitals."
There’s a question most of us don’t say out loud.
But it’s there… in the quiet moments.
Late at night.
In the car.
At the dinner table.
What will happen to my child after I’m gone?
If that question has ever crossed your mind, you’re not alone.
The @NRO and @AdamOmaryPhD insist autism rates are not truly rising- that we’re just over-diagnosing. But literally every system serving cases *limited to developmental disability level autism* (substantial impairment across multiple domains) has SKYROCKETED. California’s DDS data by birth year is a prime example. 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 The data-free denialism from both the neurodiversity left and the “it’s all fraud” right perpetuates our navel-gazing stagnation and helps absolutely no one.
Autism is not caused by vaccines. But other vectors (ahem certain heritable parental exposures ahem ahem) may help explain this dire epidemic. Figuring this out should be Job One, not this dumdum denialist myth peddling.
No, autism overdiagnosis is not a national scandal. In fact we are more likely *under-diagnosing” autism, by as much as 25%, according to a large NJ study. Notice that the @NRO article gets a lot of data wrong (CDC has found severe autism has *increased* over time!!! as any dumdumhead knows) and can’t back up its headline with actual data. 😡😡😡

Sensitivity and Specificity of Common Autism Diagnostic Instruments for Early School-Aged Children https://t.co/UeYnwaHeKa ADOS still the gold standard, closely followed by ADI-R. Fantastic stats on sensitivity and specificity. Don't listen to anyone who says otherwise!
We Promised Parents a Miracle Autism Treatment. Then We Took It Away https://t.co/aaeufdw4J2 Detailed article. Mentions Dr Frye's research, folate receptor autoantibodies and how plural autisms means the need to 'focus on best responders' and why.
