TANZANIA FACES INTERNET BLACKOUT AS PROTESTS ERUPT ON ELECTION DAY
Tanzania is experiencing a nationwide internet disruption on election day, with many users reporting they are unable to access major social media platforms or send messages.

According to global internet observatory NetBlocks, live network data confirmed a nationwide disruption to internet connectivity, matching widespread reports of a digital blackout across the country.

The blackout comes as protests continue to break out in different parts of Tanzania, with angry youth taking to the streets to express frustration over what they call an unfair and one-sided vote.

In Dar es Salaam and other cities, police have fired teargas to disperse crowds, while tanks and armoured vehicles have been deployed to prevent unrest.

The elections are being held under heavy security, with President Samia Suluhu Hassan seeking another term in a race where key opposition leaders have been barred or jailed.

In honour of Remembrance Day, I'd like to honour my grandfather Samuel Mpangile (left), a former WW2 vet and a member of the King's African Rifles. He was stationed in Ethiopia and later Somalia during the war.

PS. Today is also his birthday. He would have turned 106 today
