Shocking reports from Azad Kashmir of live fire being used against peaceful protesters are deeply alarming.

Violence against people exercising their democratic rights has no place in any society. Every effort must now be made to prevent any further escalation, protect civilian life and bring an immediate end to the bloodshed.

Commander Farooq Khan, a long-time companion of Amanullah Khan and Yasin Malik, was critically injured by Pakistani forces in Rawalakot two days ago.
He succumbed to the severity of his wounds and was martyred. His lifelong struggle and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Just as I have previously in relation to atrocities committed by Indian-administered Kashmir, I urged our government to put pressure on Pakistani counterparts to end the blockade and stop violence towards protesters.
