@KenyanSays Yes, too much water. Keep refilling that truck, as it would get empty pretty quick. Will not even cover kilometres of roads.
Overhead is too high.
@samlambert With this approach space would be an important consideration though. Interesting.
I have mostly done in a separate cluster, up from a snapshot, enable binlog replication and done a switch over.
@championswimmer Sharding may appear straightforward in theory, but implementing sharding gets complex when it meets business goals, cross-regional databases, and managing diverse shard needs.
Postman delayed sharding with other methods.

Blameless culture matters ⚡
Mistakes are inevitable; bugs will hit production; and outages are bound to happen, but how we respond to these errors and events significantly impacts our team's success and overall well-being.
Blameless culture is all about prioritizing learning and improvement over finger-pointing and punishment. It helps in
1. building a safe space to share and discuss errors openly
2. building a culture where things are not put under the rug
3. building a collaborative environment for better decision-making
4. building a culture of continuous improvement
Few things you can do to build a blameless culture:
1. shift focus - from "Who made the mistake?" to "What went wrong?"
2. encourage transparency - reward teams who openly share their challenges
3. encourage experimentation and learning from failures
4. create and share RCAs of events in an open channel
Blameless culture is not about ensuring that mistakes never happen. It's about creating an environment where we learn from setbacks and become a better team.
⚡ I keep writing and sharing these nuggets, so if you resonate, follow along and become a better engineer and leader.
