Dove has an anti- aging campaign in support of young children who show signs of anxiety and to boost their self esteem from societal expectations. Social media has pushed high expectations of “what we should look like” it’s now effecting the children. #AdvocacyinAging24
@agepositively92 Happy Easter! Unfortunately I am not due to the workload from my classes 🫤 but by showing appreciation I should definitely call and do a check in. They would love that!
This week in class I really enjoyed our group activity looking into various ageist articles and changing the language. It also taught me ageism isn’t just about what you say because although the statement may be true it’s how you say it that makes it ageism. #AdvocacyinAging2024
@Agingwithmaia I as well see tweets and blogs on instagram posting celebrities who “haven’t aged.” Since joining this class I’ve learned aging is looked differently but aging everyday, that we indeed do!
This week I came across a tweet about Halle Bailey “snap back” since she’s had her baby. Comments like this can complimentary but also offensive and ageist, how are you suppose to look after giving birth? Let’s stop putting a standard look on postpartum women. #AdvocacyinAging24
@Agingwithmaia I’ve always looked at dementia in a negative way with little to none information about the condition. Brian definitely enlighten me and I as well will continue to do research and educate myself on dementia.
This week I enjoyed our class speaker. It gave me a different perspective on dementia. I found it amazing how independent Brian is and aware with his diagnosis. I always find service dogs so expressive and love the trust and relationship he has with his own! #AdvocacyinAging24
@Davis65949925 I definitely agree! I currently follow a family on TikTok who creates content of their mom who has dementia. It has definitely given me a different point of view of the disease bringing awareness and also loving the content of a random women with great personality! Lol
@LadyTiv Getting older should mean growing in other ways outside of age such as mentally, financially, emotionally, etc. All good things but I can’t help to also think what will my physical growth look like??
Went out to dinner w/ friend and the table across was an elder man eating alone my friend stated “how peaceful” and I immediately responded I feel bad .. I then thought to myself how ageist! assuming because he was older and eating dinner alone he was lonely .. #AdvocacyinAging24
@everyoneages Companies want you to think that because that is how they profit. When we think of all the aging skin products the only way to promote is to get others to question themselves and lower their self esteem to get the product bought with hopes the product will address their aging.
@sarah_e_tesar Great question. I have never thought so much of what I can put in now that will help later as I continue to age, but financial stability is something I truly think on a lot and look forward to build with great benefits for later.
This week in class I presented ageism on TikTok. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this assignment relating my favorite app to a heavy topic we often look over. The aging filter was my favorite example I see it so often on my “fyp”..filters can be deceiving. #AdvocacyinAging24
@sarah_e_tesar absolutely! and all communities you listed are all communities that are discriminated against. Unfortunately we live in a society where we pick and choose for those we show up and advocate for.
@sarah_e_tesar Ageism in the medical field is so real and actually sad! It makes me think of how my grandma was treated when sick and her nurses overlooking her when family wasn’t present. It wasn’t until my aunt who is a social worker had to step in to advocate when they finally listened.
