Studying hematopoiesis and innate immunity using Chemical Biology and Proteomics @UCSF. Student-run, message to learn more or if you have cool science ideas!
Is arginine the next frontier in covalent chemistry? We think so! Check out our latest work in collaboration with @IanSeiple where we utilize ninhydrin as a selective warhead and probe for reactive arginines!
Is 2026 the year of arginine?
Covalent discovery and chemical proteomics have largely focused on cysteine and lysine, leaving other functionally critical residues underexplored.
In our new preprint, our joint Seiple and Zaro Lab team asked: Can arginine be targeted covalently? 🧵
You are what you eat! We leveraged chemical proteomics to discover that macrophages redeploy intact surface proteins made by their cancer cell meals during phagocytosis. These proteins are functional, and redeployment may explain the etiology of the TAM. https://t.co/RIZIGzD8bS
How thrilling to see this online after 8 years in the works!!!
We showed that #Lyme bacteria
mimic our own“don’t eat me” signal with their P66 protein to hide in plain sight!!! This tricks our SIRPa protein to trigger the breaks on immune clearance!

Check out this new preprint/white paper from our friends at Entwine bio together with @vram142 and @ZaroLab. We and others have long been interested in sequence-to-function modeling in RNA, especially as it comes to splicing. https://t.co/5wZeXCjCwK
🚨It's live! Check out the ACS Chem Biol special issue highlighting the rich living history of click & bioorthogonal chemistries from the pages of the journal, to celebrate the 2022 Nobel Prize to @CarolynBertozzi, Barry Sharpless, & Morten Meldal! 🎉 https://t.co/3NqFDpqCIG 1/n
The @UCSF Mission Bay Innate Immunity Working Group now has a website! Keep updated on future meetings and access available immunology resources. If you’re interested in presenting, reach out to @ZaroLab or @DrEmilyGoldberg 🧪

Curious how the Lyme pathogen changes as it moves through ticks during bloodmeal transmission? Us too - and it took a lot of blood sweat and tears (and ticks) for @annesapiro to crack this one. Let us know if you need help navigating our data! https://t.co/dBjfbIGNJd

Channel:chaperone cryoEM structure. Super talented team Zhou, Abhisek, &Fayal with @ZaroLab. EMC twists, turns, and extracts a pore domain.

@DrEmilyGoldberg @thermofisher This is reminiscent of #prospecbio terms where liability of package delivery (of purified recombinant proteins) lies with the recipient and not sender. It’s $75 to ship - and somehow we are also responsible for how much ice their shipping team uses?! 😡
